Interested in Triple Monitors Setup

Hello and greetings from Thessaloniki, Greece.

 

I recently purchased a new PC with the following characteristics:

 

CPU Intel Core  I7 4770K 3.5Ghz overclocked to 4.2 Ghz

16GB  DDR3 1600Mhz

GPU nVidia GTX 780 3GB

Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC FORCE

1 SSD Samsung 256 GB where the FSX is running.

1 SSD Samsung 256 GB where the WIN 7 Pro 64bit is running

1 SATA iii 7200 rpm 2TB for all the backup/addons stuff.

1 LG TV 32" (model 32LN575S-ZE) (full HD, 1980X1080)

Liquid-cooled PC with CORSAIR H100

 

I use ACTIVE SKY NEXT, FSUIPC latest registered version, EFASS, iVap etc.

 

 

I started thinking of purchasing another 2 same LG TV screens so as to have a nice 3x32" TV set up.

 

I am totally unaware of these stuff. I am a rookie in seting up a PC generally (good friends helped me with the above setup), and I need your advise and guidance.

 

 

What do you believe I need to make this 3 monitor set up to run with no problems? Do I need a second GPU or not? Do I need any other hardware?

No extra video card needed.

You will just need two adaptors to connect the two new TVs (HDMI?) to your cards DVI connectors.

Plug them all in and then set up nVidia Surround if required.

Yes to both.

DVI adaptors on the ends of your HDMI cables.

Surround will be an option in nVidia control panel when you have the three TVs connected.

Just been through it and always start low, meaning set them up and see what response you get FPS. 3 x 32's may look pretty ordinary or fine. My concern is spreading the pixel re across another 2 monitors and well will this look. Graphics card increase may increase FPS marginally but not the display generally.

 

Any dramas get back. I am no expert but just spent 6 weeks researching this stuff.

Returning to this thread after many months. I still haven't done the move to purchase 2 extra 32" TVs, but I think it is a matter of time...

Ok, we are talking of 300 dollars more, but if this is solution guarantees np issues, then...Ok!

No need, both AMD (Eyefinity) and Nvidia (surround??) offer the ability to use multiple monitors as one.  I don't know a great deal about Nvidia's offering, but AMD Eyefinity works well in FSX, albeit with the usual AMD caveats (very average cloud performance etc...)

Thank you WotanUK! The problem that will come up is that I will have to "transfer" the cockpit outside the TV monitor in order to use the TVs for left-center-right outside view, which means new dilemmas...

I am not sure if i have understood you correctly; but if you want to take separate windows for each view you are going to take a massive performance hit, i am not convinced if you are running complex aircraft that the simulation will be usable.  

 

Personally and assuming that i have understood you; i would simply span the VC across the 3 monitors, simply add

WideViewAspect=True

to the FSX.cfg file.

 

You might want to invest in TrackIR or EZDok.

if I split the VC in the three monitors, then I am afraid what will be the distance between "me" and the VC.O I mean will I be able to see the PFD and MFD during flight? Because if there is great distance then I will have to use the zoom function, and then what will happen with the resolution?

Am I thinking the right way?

 

P.S I have already the Ezdok camera.

Using EZDok / TrackIR you would be able to either setup views (EZDok) or move your head around zooming in and out as required, please note TrackIR may have issues with multi-screen setups.

 

Yes, you do get a somewhat zoomed out view using WideViewAspect=True.  Some aircraft do allow 2D panels for the instruments, i use these, otherwise you would have to create a more zoomed in view.

 

Zoom has no impact on the resolution.  Are you talking about the view, if you are more zoomed into the instrument panel you see less of the outside, certainly true.  

 

You can try using three different views, but i think you'll be on here talking about VAS and performance issues next.

So guys, I am ready to start building my home cockpit. 

My IDEA is the following:

 

3 TVs 32" Full HD for outer views only (left TV/left window view, center TV/center view, right TV/right window view) connected to Matrox TripleHEad2GO via 3x HDMI (from TVs) to DVI-D cables (to Matrox). Then One DVI to DVi cable will connect the Matrox with the DVI-D port of my Nvidia GTX780 3GB

 

A 21.5" TV monitor (for PFD, MFD and other small instruments) will be connected to Nvidia's GTX780 DVI-I port (VGA to DVI-i cable)

 

Second Nvidia GTX760 Jetstream 4GB DDR5 PCI-E (Palit) will be connected with a 32"TV (converted to touchscreen, for the Overhead Panel) with a HDMI (from TV) to DVI-D to the GPU.

 

A 19.5" touchscreen (for 2 FMCs and Engine panel) will be connected to GTX760 with a HDMI to HDMI cable.

 

The Cockpit will include:

 

CPflight MCP for Boeing 737

CPflight EFIS737EL

CPflight COM737

CPflight ADF 737

CPflight NAV 737

CPflight XPNDR 737

If this configuration works then it saves me from an extra expense (Matrox TripleHEad2Go).

 

So, the 3X32" TVs will have HDMI inputs. 

GPU Nvidia GTX780: HDMI to HDMI with the one TV. The other TV HDMI to DVI-D of card. The 3rd TV? How will the 3rd TV will be connected to the card? ( remains 1 DVI-I and one display port free on the GPU)
