May 26, 201412 yr Ditto - upgraded to 10.30b1 last night, and was completely blown away by the vast improvement in performance! Now I can run World2XPlane OSM-scenery with number of roads and objects at max without melting the GPU and CPU, and with a high LOD radius - even when running FlightFactor 757 1.12 (which by the way feels somewhat buggy in 10.30b1 - not sure which of them is to blame - needs a bit more investigation! ).Best regards, Kristoffer Best regards,Kristoffer Løkke-Sørensen

May 26, 201412 yr Sorry, but I don't know FSX/P3D (they don't run too well on Linux .... *duck* ...  ) .... And you have a shadow control via the rendering option "shadow detail" ... (and internally, XP10 has even more art controls ... but Laminar usually chooses to make config a simple as possible, and hides complex stuff). I know from the past you are an FSX avid user Anyway, I must be tired as I have not seen a shadow detail. When I wake up I will look again and see if lowering that helps during the day. Thanks Bob Officially retired
May 26, 201412 yr with 10.30b1, I can maintain 30fps (locked How are you "locking" the frame rate in X-Plane? Do you mean "locked to monitor" drop down or something else? Thanks
May 26, 201412 yr Commercial Member Lol everyone is saying 10.30 is awesome ! hmm where ? I only see the cloud changes and that's great. But clouds anyway eat up my fps, so unless i am in the mountains i tend to go CAVOK. Again am i missing something ? ??? The GPS, for a start. Mario Donick .:. vFlyteAir
May 26, 201412 yr How are you "locking" the frame rate in X-Plane? Do you mean "locked to monitor" drop down or something else? Thanks I use Nvidia inspector to lock at 1/2 of monitor refreh rate. May 26, 201412 yr The GPS, for a start. Ah, isn't there anything awesome? I took some flights from kbfi Zurich Berlin etc hmm I am just not able to see the difference. Maybe the textures are sharpened. I don't use the GPS anyway. I swear I am missing something Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
May 26, 201412 yr Well, as Ben Supnik already openly stated: a lot of the changes are under the hood (so, there is often more than what meets the eye): http://developer.x-plane.com/2014/05/x-plane-10-30-public-beta-1-is-available/ The new GPS. The new GPS is the driver of this beta – it’s why Austin called me from the airport this morning to find out “is it out yet”? It’s the big news of the beta, and it’s something we’ve wanted to bring to X-Plane for quite a long time. A pretty long list of bug fixes and usability improvements. We held back on a lot of these to get 64-bit out quickly, so with 10.30 we’re finally putting out the door a lot of work we’ve done. There’s a lot of attention to detail in these fixes. Improvements in clouds and sky. This work is only partly done – I have some fog work that is not in the beta because I did not want to hold the new GPS (see point 1) up. It is even possible that if everything else is done, we do a 10.35 for fog or something. The GPS and fog work are independent from each other (and driven by different engineers), so my thinking is that if one is done and the other is not, we should not hold back the GPS unnecessarily. Lots of under the hood changes. This isn’t particularly interesting for users or authors, but it is necessary for the long term development of the sim. I mention it to try to give you a sense of the scope of the changes. And those changes are numerous: http://www.x-plane.com/?article=x-plane-10-30-release-notesSo yes ... its lot of reading ... but reading educates  ! May 26, 201412 yr I use Nvidia inspector to lock at 1/2 of monitor refreh rate. Thanks. Going to try that. Been bouncing back and forth between a Mac & Win8.1 install of XP 10.3b1 - Still can't decide which is giving me better performance. Getting some oddities (both OSes) where the exact same situation, weather, *everything* is giving very different FPS performance depending upon if I loaded it fresh after a restart, etc, etc. - Can't even really duplicate exact situation and FPS due to randomness right now. Perhaps a beta issue for sure. Using NVIDIA inspector - What are some recommendations on what to set/not-set in there? Thanks!

I could reload a saved flight, everything the same and get different fps readings. Bob Officially retired
May 27, 201412 yr Well. I think the Windows install is giving me slightly better performance...not a huge shock since the NVIDIA drivers get way more love on windows. That said, these inconsistent FPS numbers for identical situation runs are maddening. Makes it hard to tweak anything at all right now. Clouds. Better. Still not anything like using ASN with P3D, but better at least. Ridiculous performance hog though, so hard to like them much IMO
May 27, 201412 yr Commercial Member 18fps in a simple GA aircraft, and that's without any realistic Ai or real world weather. You are not comparing apples to apples here Mitch, Don't forget HDR set to max AA. Try turning it up on FSX and see the fps drop. Oh, sorry...FSX doesn't have HDR. My bad.
May 27, 201412 yr Well, I've changed my tune back to my Mac X-Plane install. Windows one seems to have something wrong. I literally just kept losing FPS with every situational reload and never would get them back somehow. I actually set it to "minimum everything" and was still only getting around 34fps (ridiculously low for my hardware with everything "off"). Not sure how this happened. Meanwhile, my Mac 10.3b1 install is chugging out mostly always 30fps with 50% cloud puffs and mostly max elsewhere. Wish I understood how Cloud Puffs work. I don't seem to understand what it does. ...and back more to the OP's point about smoothness. 2 things really keep me on X-Plane vs P3D. 1. Cockpit stays butter smooth (instruments and update speeds, etc) really no matter what's going on with the scenery FPS. Absolutely KEY to a flight simulator. In P3D you can fire up a G1000 plane and just watch everything get jittery and bounce all over...maddening. 2. Lighting distance. Anyone else notice in FSX/P3D how you can't see airport lighting from very far away? It doesn't seem to have the rendering priority it should have or something. It's one thing to have scenery not load until you're close, but when it's a good visibility evening and you can't see the lights of the airport until you're 10-15 miles out, you've lost me as a flight simulator. I'm *really* looking forward to the distance scenery in a future XP 10.3 beta. That will be simply awesome (finally)
May 27, 201412 yr Moderator Ah, isn't there anything awesome?I took some flights from kbfi Zurich Berlin etc hmm I am just not able to see the difference.Maybe the textures are sharpened.I don't use the GPS anyway.I swear I am missing something I finally had a chance to update and give it a go, and the one thing I did notice was improved FPS with World2XPlane scenery, not much, but noticeable. Since I use Skymaxx Pro, I didn't check the clouds, but I'm very happy with the new GPS, which finally lets you control it with the mouse-wheel (which is a huge step forward). The GPS also comes with the latest May 2014 data, and the few approaches I checked were all there. I couldn't get it to work in some of my favourites such as the Bell 407, but I'm sure updates will appear eventually to sort this out. The GPS works as expected and is very similar to what I'm used to with the RealityXP units in FSX. (Now let's hope someone will also eventually do a GTN 750, like Flight1 have just done for FSX ) Additionally, the internal roads.net changes work, so as well as now enabling us to have our own custom roads (in addition to X-Plane's), we can also finally control the placement of pylons on electric lines and ski-lifts, etc.. The lighting tweaks still all seem to work. Also, some more changes are yet to come (e.g. The visibility and fog (which may not come in 10.30)), but also for aircraft and plugins to be updated/created which use the new features in 10.30
May 27, 201412 yr Significant loss in fps for me, down from 25-30+ to less then 10 now Have reset graphics settings all the way down to min but no change, no matter what I choose. Can't find anything else to change in Hydravision. My 2X HD4850 showing their age I guess, but I swear with 10.25 I had way better frames. Flight Sim New Zealand- Flight Sim Blog
