Audio problems

Recommended Posts

Not normally, however, yesterday I did.

1) First flight setup was just a standard load of the Q400 from the menu.  But I did have the audio issue.

2) I had an FSX freeze because I was messing around with FSInn and restarted but this time used a saved state.  Again had the audio cutout issue.

Try:

1. Not using FSINN.

2. No saved situation file.  Ensure Trike is the default aircraft.

I'm really stumped on this because you said the NGX version works perfectly and the Dash 8 and NGX use the exact same system.

Total long shot:  Try defragging your hard drive.

Im open to any suggestions. I really want to figure this out. My hard drive is new. everything ele works well. I do notice that the check volume message comes up on the fs2crew main panel. I do use 5.1 surround but have changed it to stereo with no better results. thx in advance for helping to solve this mystery

That's a pretty big clue.  I wish you had mentioned that earlier :-)

Are you sure the volume knob is not off on the Audio Panel?

1)  I have issues with or without FSInn loaded.

2) Maybe this is a problem.  I have changed the startup spinning screen to the Microsoft Baron, so I will revert back to the Trike but as both are default MS aircraft I can't see this as an issue.

3) Drive is very well defragged (O&O - Complete/Name).

i will check later, but I assume that if it was off, I would not here anything. when I press the audio test button I usually get a partial test before she cuts out. and co pilot gives partial answers. are you saying that if volume is to low i will get partial voices? if this is indeed the problem than I both apologize and appreciate you patience. I will let you know after work

The voice shouldn't get cut-off.

However, I'm wondering if in some weird way, the volume knob is going to 0 - by itself somehow- half way through the sound being played, effectively cutting it off.

Mark, this applies to you too...

Next you this happens to you, please press the Audio Test button and let me know if it says "check volume".

If it says check volume, it means the VOL knob is off.

OK will do.  I have checked the volume quite a few times and I always hear the full "Right speaker test, Left Speaker test" but no volume through the headset.  Not sure if it is supposed to go through the headset as well.

OK, here goes....I did a bunch of testing tonight.

dental12 - By any chance to you use LINDA or have the VRInsight MCP II panel?  The reason I ask will be clear in my testing notes below.

Here are the tests I performed tonight and the results.  Note that I only got as far as the engine start checklist but in every case when audio issues were present they we evident very early on.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Pre-Test - Disabled Nvidia Sound.
Updated Audio Drivers.
Disk Defrag
Windows updated completed.

-------------------------------------------------------

Test #1 - 1 computer, 1 screen, New CFG - No Issues.

Restart

Test #2 - Same as above except old CFG - No Issues.  (Linda active, but MCPII off)

Restart

Test #3 - Complex Airport, FSInn, Two Screens, Linda & MCPII, Networked Computer. Audio

Cuts out.

Restart

Test #4 - Default Airport, FSInn, One Screen / Windowed, Linda & MCPII, Networked

Computer.  Audio Cuts Out.

Restart

Test #5 - 1 Computer, Default Airport, One Screen / Windowed, Linda & MCPII.  Audio Cuts

Out.

Restart

Test #6 - 2 Computers, Default Airport, One Screen / Windowed, FSInn. Networked Computer.
No Linda & MCPII - Worked, no audio issues.
FSInn worked perfectly, Radio Check with Controller 5/5 & I could hear FS2Crew audio and Vatsim chatter clearly with no problems, even when they were on top of one another.

Restart

Test #7 - 2 Computers, Default Airport, One Screen / Windowed, FSInn (not connected to Vatsim), Networked Computer.
Linda & MCPII - Audio Cuts Out.

So is this possibly a LINDA problem ??????

OK Bryan, your turn, hopefully this helps you trouble shoot.

One more thing Bryan. I have not flown the NGX that much lately and probably not with fs2crew for some time. It is possible that I started using Linda after using NGX & fs2crew the last time.

Hi Mark

yes I use Linda alot and have the mcpll. that would be a shame if we had to choose between using fs2crew or the mcpll. Your testing is impressive. Thanks for putting in the time to help.By the way the linda profiles for the q400 are amazing arent they?

Hi Lee and Mark,

We'll we finally figured it out then... it's definitely appears that LINDA and the MCPLL is causing this problem for you.

However, I don't know how LINDA could result in audio loss.

I don't have much experience with LINDA... does LInda control the volume knob at all?

Linda has the ability to control almost everything in the aircraft as long as the program can access it via the SDK.   So yes it can, but it has to be assigned although it may be by default.  I will check the assignments and see if it has been assigned to anything.

OK, had a chance to check the assignments and there are no volume assignments anywhere in my Linda setup.  The only COMM assignment is a toggle of the radios from the standby to active frequency.

Now I did notice that the MCP panel does cycle through various states of the aircraft and display them on the digital readout.  It seems like the MX is displayed when there is audio happening and when it cuts out there is another item on the display (like APU) or something similar.  This is not 100% true as there were some times when the audio cutout but the display did not change.  I will post in the Linda forums to see if anyone can help.
