RC put me in a 90 minute hold - Normal?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Been using RC for a long time, but have just recently started having it hold me at destination. I've done it a couple of times now where RC gives me holding instructions and I enter the hold accordingly. RC advises me they'll get back to me at, say, 0520. No worries. 0520 comes around and I get a new time of 0545, then 0555 the, 0610 then 0630. Last night I was kept holding for 90 minutes.

Eventually I declared min fuel and went on to land.

Is there anyway to set a maximum time to hold? I like a hold, but 90 minutes could be a bit excessive.

Does anybody know what paramaters RC uses to set hold times?

Cheers,

I believe its using destination weather to decide holding times.  I don't have my manual but if the weather is low visibility or just bad weather it will simulate traffic backing up due to delays etc.

I could be wrong but that's the way I see it when they would give me holds.  I eventually just disabled the holding due to situations like you found yourself in with 90 minutes flying in circles for no apparent reason other than simulation.

Thats fair enough. ASN did depict low cloud at KORD which was destination so I'm happy with that element of realism. I just thought 90 minutes was a little over the top for a sim.

Whenever I end up in "the hold from Hell" I save the flight and exit FSX/P3D and then go back in and load the flight and continue.  I've always found that the hold quickly comes to an end.

1. At KORD what was your weather when you landed. Could it also have been dense traffic?

2. You also have the option of flying to your declared alternate airport (if weather and the airport facilities are suitable.
