Just reported in UK that we all have to sit for the whole flight now on any incoming flight to USA.We can go to the toilet, but we will be monitored to see that we sit down in our seat again! So, I guess we all get DVT now and that will be the hidden method of getting terroists before they attack! As a mid life male, with a tendancy to need to go every hour or so, will I be allowed?(lol)All getting a wee bit silly. Security check me 10 times, sit me next to a sky marshal, question me about anything, I will comply. You are after all protecting me and my family. But I am 6ft 1, with a 34" inside leg, and airline seats at the 32" spacing and I do not get on. So I spend at least 5-10mins each hour standing amd walking about. I try and get the extra legroom seats, and am big enough for emergency exit duty, but am not always successful in getting these seats. So, watch out, wet seats coming up!

You should have seen the Yankee security when a tourgroup of over 60 qualified pilots from South Africa travelled together to the Oshkosh airshow in 2002. The combined total of hours in the group totalled over 150,000 ... ranging from 747 captains, to homebuilt pilots and even a balloon pilot ...DooRoohttp://www.aircraft.co.zahttp://www.eyetea.co.za

Indeed :(The other day at my flying lesson, I was walking over to preflight my plane and I was stopped by some security guy. He questioned me so rudely asking me HOW old I am, WHY am I here, WHAT I intend to do (isnt that pretty much the same question as the WHY?) and WHY is nobody with me.HOW old are you: Fifteen...WHY are you here: Uh, flying lesson?WHAT do you intend to do: ...FlyWHY is nobody with you: I INTENDED (stressed it) to preflight my aircraft, I never needed an escort out here before. He then told me he saw me looking over at some Citations before and asked me if I had any intention of going over to them.I told him no, but actually I did because the pilots invite me over to talk and go inside the plane... god forbid! He then took me back to my flight school only to be put to shame by the owners and my father... the security "guard" was trying to defend his pointless argument by saying that a fifteen year old shouldnt be alone next to millions of dollars of aircraft...I mean, really! Airplanes are my LIFE! last thing I would want to do is damage one none the less steal one if thats what he was getting it. Please, I had a kneeboard, headset, strainer and maps with me... its not like I had a hammer and chainsaw on my sides...To make the guy feel bad, I saw him after the lesson just looking about and he caught site of me walking over to a Citation II- when I got there and started talking to the pilot and turned around and gave the security man a "friendly" wave :-lolTake care,Jason :-wave

Christ, this is seriously worrying me. Are you in the USA, Jason ? If so, what happens to all of the people on holiday over there ? Do they each get allocated a security guard to follow them around wherever they go ? Do they have to ask permission to go to the toilet ?:-fumeChris Low.

Yes, Chris- New Jersey, USACould be that this is a busy airport with a lot of rich and powerful people coming through it- its not an international airport, just a very busy airport with business jets coming in from around the globe :)

Be careful Jason, If that guy is TSA, they can declare anyone with an FAA certificate who ####### them off a security risk, and with out show of cause ,can revoke all certificates! I am not joking! I tell all the young mechanics coming into the airline I work at , to keep their mouths shut no matter how idiotic the the security screener may be. Because if you qestion the system , you will lose. And no, we are not any safer.

I flew from Toronto to Vancouver at Christmas. We weren't aloud out of our seats until over an hour out of Toronto. When the captain explained the new rules there was an unmistakable hint of sarcasm in his voice. He obviously thought they were absurd. Frankly the new rules made me angry. I say we have to think very carefully about what we agree to do for the sake of so-called security.DannyCYVR

Well, I'm not particularly fond of flying anyway, so these guys might just be making a decision for me :-)Chris Low.

One of the unintended consequences of this type of security is to discourage people from persuing their interests in aviation. When I was a young-un like you, I spent more time hanging out at my local flight school than I probably should have :) As a result, I got to meet some really incredible people .. see, touch, and hear a bunch of different type of airplanes ... and otherwise jump-start my interest in aviation. Without that type of interaction, I may not have been motivated enough to persue my ticket. With the current government attitude toward light aircraft, a bunch of young people - perhaps less motivated than yourself - are simply flushing their dreams down the toilet and walking away from aviation. The result?Terrorism: 1 Safety and Security: 0just one person's opinion ...

Make sure Ashcroft and his boys don't get wind of the fact you will soon have a flying medical. They will put you on their LIST:-lol You did just fine, Jason, and don't let them intimidate you out of your dreams. Keep yer wits about ya, boy and go for that license!!! Young'uns like you are what made this nation and young'uns like you are what will keep it going long after the "Patriot Act" and the shrub are both in the dustbin of history.
