"Microsoft Sells License to FS Franchise" Part 2

Featured Replies

Wow. If Dovetail Games bought the rights for Flight Simulator, be prepared to bend over. I have never seen such a greedy form of "DLC" expansions than that company has created. Not to mention they have a truly awful track record for bug fixing and general customer support.

Exactly this. I like Train Sim but the DLC model is absolutely horrible. Total cost for all the DLC is over $2,000.

Did you read the news story on the front page?

"Speculations on who the licensee is are probably going to be mute by the end of this week. "

Thanks for answering my question before I asked it :)

"We look forward to an official announcement at the E3 coming this week."

Just watched Microsoft on there. How do I get those minutes of my life back?

Statements like this one by a leading Website owner are not based on pure rumors. They are usually made with knowledge, if not with consent of the Licensee. There may be several reasons for this, one may be to test reactions in advance to fine-tune the press release.

Michael, your first sentence is "spot on" as they say. The remainder is incorrect. We, AVSIM, as I said earlier, participated in a number of meetings with a couple of the teams starting in 2012 and continuing through the end of 2013. Our role was to advise.

And before anyone says "well look at all the money spent on FSX currently," I would say check out the state of what Dovetail (and their "partners") have produced. The complexity of most of their addons is kind of like default FSX aircraft. They look halfway decent but the actual simulation depth is abysmally thin, and they just copy and paste things like sound assets and scripting..

edit: I'm calling this now - IF DTG does turn out to be the licensee, you can forget about a flight simulator for the "hardcore" simmers like most of us here at Avsim. It would be a Flight-alike with $20 DLC aircraft with paper-thin realism.

I have it on reasonable authority that the acquisition of the franchise is going to be funded by Steam, in conjunction with this simulation author ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/295810/ ) so as to extend and develop a more up to date world scenery.

(Oh and this is a joke so don't link if you have no humour)

Or you could just carry on as usual and read about it after the "official announcement at the E3 coming this week."

I hope any news will be released on Friday at the last possible moment.

Boy, if it has anything to do with Steam, count me out.

Their system sucks, and their support sucks even more.  I finally gave up after they and a vendor kept pointing fingers at the other.  My problem was never resolved.

Google would be an ideal company to develop the sim.

Yes, I agree with that statement. Look at the CP route .

System: MSFS2024, ASUS Rog Stryx Z790-A,  Intel i9-14900KF,  Asus ROG Ryujin III 360 , Asus Hyperion Case,Rog Stryx 4090 OC, Samsung 970 EVO M.2 SSD, 1Tb Samsung 860 EVO SSD,64Gb G Skill Memory, Asus Aura 1200W Gold PSU,Win 11 ,LG C4 48" 4K OLED Screen., Airbus TCA Full Kit, Stream Deck XL. WinWing FCU, EFIS, MCDU

I highly doubt Valve has interest. They've taken the "we're only a distributor" path for the moment. Greenlight is voted by users, not the compamy

Oh I didn't know they'd said that. Yes I know greenlight is used driven - that was my point

Google would be an ideal company to develop the sim.

Despite the whole zero experience thing?

Personally I think steam is fantastic

When will the "licensee" be announced? Today, tomorrow, next week, next year? And how reliable is your "source" exactly?

Did you actually read what Tom wrote as the first post in this thread?

What part of "AVSIM subsequently participated in meetings and discussions with a couple of the teams in 2012 and throughout 2013." was unclear?

@Superdelphinus

Glad you have had good expereinces.

Mine was horrible and lasted over a month of bickering between those two parties.  I finally told them to cancel my membership.  That was also just about impossible to do.  Their system is set up so that once they hook you, they never let go.

Sorry, Tom.  Not trying to hijack this topic.  I will be mute on this subject from now on.

So just to be clear, nobody thinks these new people can sue LM and force them to shut down P3D?

Absolutely not....
