I guess it comes down to this question;

Mr. Allensworth, in your opinion, do you believe the community will like the buyer or not.

I am not going to walk out on that plank. Too many sharks in the water below.

I sincerely hope the rights that LM currently has is not diluted in any way by this deal and LM continues its part on the P3D.

who ever )other than LM themselves) bought this is behind LM by 2 years at least.

LM's deal can not be changed by this, unless they agree to it themselves.

Thanks

I highly doubt that LM would lose anything from their agreement with Microsoft unless within that agreement they allowed gaps in that agreement that violated the core principals of corporate responsibility to shareholders.  I would fully expect they have a legal team that is well beyond the possibility of that occurring.

Ok... let's clear something up... Microsoft does not have any ownership of Prepar3D.  They really don't.  Lockheed-Martin purchased the source to ESP from Microsoft.  The purchase means they own it.  Microsoft can't take it away from them and no one else can either.

Perhaps we're too much centered around whom we know.

What about a rich Sheik from the Middle East? These have certainly deep pockets and an affinity to flying. Actually, they buy airbuses like other people buy milk to feed their children. There are certainly several of them owning their own smaller airline. And they are no obvious candidates.

They could easily pay a group of 30 talented programmers including a few former ACES employees for 3 yrs. If all fails - bad luck, If not, there are good possibilities. Besides retail, wouldn't a  few simulators be nice at OMDB for passengers who have to change flights but are fed up of duty free?

Kind regards, Michael

I will not argue with the overtone of your agreement, but really how direct have you dissected the actual (not imagined) legal agreement between MS and LM. I think not!

I have seen, first hand, what Microsoft requires for the purchase of the ESP source code... even what the price was (it may have changed).

Good point Michael, but MS cannot sell what it legally cannot sell (license).  And that is based on what they have already sold (licensed) unless those previous agreements allow MS to throw out previous agreements in favor of agreements more beneficial.  If someone else previously agreed to arrangement that form of terms then they (or their legal team) should be strung up!

That is not going to get any further response than do you really think L-M would get a worse deal than the one I know exists for anyone with the money?

Not entirely true, they didn't purchase the source outright they purchased a license to the code to further develop on their own, which is why there are restrictions in the agreement! (ie: Cant develop for the entertainment market)

LM got the deal they got. This weeks purchaser got the deal they got and you have no idea what the details are to either one.

Picture a large conference room with all the top dogs from PMDG, Aerosoft, ORBX, Majestic, Real Air, Carenado, FlyTampa, A2A, Milviz, Eaglesoft, Quality Wings, FlightSimLabs, Flight 1, FSDreamteam, FlightBeam, Sunskyjet, Pete Dowson, HiFi Tech, Opus, etc, etc and of course, Tom Allensworth.

Richard Branson walks into the room, pulls a cord and millions of dollars in cash rain down from the false ceiling onto the table.

He just smiles and says:

"Let's build a flight simulator"

I know this is a dream please dont wake me up ;-)

Image removed as image is no longer available.

Well, if they can afford million-dollar confetti, maybe they can do something. lol.
