Weather file for PFPX?

We have told PFPX on several occasions now we can provide just about any weather file they need.

 

Our standard flight plan report file should be OK, we will also be generating a more computer orientated text report file soon as well which might be better suited to packages such as PFPX.

Best read our Recommended Practices these can also be displayed using the Question Mark icon in the Weather dialog.

The text report files are all generated after each weather update and stored in your x:\OpusFSX\Themes folder. You must have activated or specified and processed a flight plan for the flight plan en route weather report to be generated.

OpusWeather.txt ... The downloaded METARs
OpusWeatherReport.txt ... The GRIB data report
OpusFlightReport.txt ... The flight plan en route weather report
OpusSIDSTARReport.txt ... The relevant SIDs and STARs

You can also display these via the OpusFSI Addon Menu.

The report is saved in the text file <OpusFSX>\Themes\OpusFlightReport.txt where <OpusFSX> identifies your OpusFSX installation folder.

OpusFlightReport (Flight Plan)

If you specify a flight plan in the weather dialog then a detailed flight plan weather report is generated each time the weather is updated. TAFs are included if you have enabled them in the Weather Download dialog. Any configured alternate Met stations are shown within the Route section of the OpusFlightReport text file and appended at the end of the Weather report section in a new Alternates section.

Bracketed wind and temperature averages either side of your cruise altitude are included in the report. Unknown temperature and dew points within the flight plan report are shown as ??. The report is saved in the text file <OpusFSX>\Themes\OpusFlightReport.txt where <OpusFSX> identifies your OpusFSX installation folder.

Opus is the weather engine so its the only weather that really matters because its the weather you are actually going to be flying in. If you know your flight plan then you can just type or paste it directly into the Opus Weather Flight Plan Options dialog then process it and update the weather, that's what I do for all VFR and IFR flying. You can also activate any standard PLN flight plan with the sim and Opus will process it automatically generating all necessary reports and weather map data.

 

These features have been extended and enhanced in OpusFSI, Beta Version 4.00 currently available to all OpusFSX users. See our SimForums for details.

I have implemented it in both the latest OpusFSX Beta Version 3.49.4 and OpusFSI Beta Version 4.00.19. The OpusFSX beta will be posted as the latest release at the end of the month after we return from our holidays.

As I said Its in the betas, there may be a few minor changes before the release but nothing that would really effect any decoding of the report. For example I might add FL040 to the wind and temperature list, all FLs being identical to altitudes in this case, so the winds and temps may range from 4000 to 44000 feet. I will also provide a description of the ROUTE section, the rest needs little if any description as its all self evident. The only thing to note, the weather at each point gives the identity of the Met station, its listed name (sometimes truncated in the databases), along with its distance and bearing from the navigation point.

OpusFlightReports ...

The new OpusFlightReport txt and rep files have already been modified to extend the altitude levels from 4000 to 44000 feet at 2000ft increments. This change will appear in the next OpusFSI Beta and the next beta or release of OpusFSX.
