June 13, 201411 yr Hmm. Agreed that up high it looks good, but a huge part of flying (for me) is the "picture" you get on approaches to airports. The totally flat photo scenery at approach to final angles just ruins it for me. That's just me though. To each their own for sure.
June 13, 201411 yr On my system the biggest FPS offenders are Cloud Shadows, Terrain Shadows and 4xSGSS AA. Water doesn't make any difference in FPS here, either on Ultra or Low. And graphics stay the same also, i think that slider is broken. I use Cloud Shadows on Medium (30.000m range), Terrain Shadows off and AA 8xS plus 2xSGSS. Tesselation and HDR don't have almoost any impact in FPS also on my system. I use unlimited FPS in the sim and NI. Having good FPS like this, even in bad weather. The AA is not as good as the 16xSQ i used in FSX, but it is what it's possible until they fix the clouds. Cheers. June 13, 201411 yr Alvega - great info - going to try your AA setting - thanks Happy to report AXE performed excellent with my new settings above - sos I cant wait for Aerosoft P3D designed Airbuses Rich Sennett
June 13, 201411 yr Hi yah Bert - tried it both ways and dam its just better this way - dont know why but it is noticeably better You paid for four cores, and you are only using one.. try AM=14.. Bert
June 13, 201411 yr ...... TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=200 - change this to 200 - really helps a lot with loading terrain day and night performance ====================================================================================== [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=84 [bufferPools] UsePools=0 These numbers would be different for you as I have 4 cores and HT off - buffer pools 0 for me was a must ..... Hi Rich, are you seriously telling us that this weird settings do improve your FS??? This sounds more like a joke than anything else. Sorry, I don't want to be offending but please don't tell people such odd things. Spirit
June 13, 201411 yr On my last flights I have noticed that volumetric fog can produce huge performance problems. So I have turned this option off. I'm not really sure but it seems that cloud shadows and terrain shadows are not very big performance killers when you keep the settings a low values. Patric
June 13, 201411 yr Just a general comment: The P3D forum has been spammed with snake oil recommendations over the last couple of weeks. If you want some proper advice for setting up P3D then look for Rob Ainscough's posts. He also has a website where he has posted his settings (http://www.robainscough.com/Prepar3D_Settings_2.php). At least he knows what he is talking about... The only other meaningful tweak is the adaptive Vsync tweak via the Nvidia control panel or NI. June 13, 201411 yr Tweak Tweak ! I tweaked so much to improve P3d!!,I improved it so much I went down to 10 to15fps from 30fps,So I went into Nvidia control panel set everything to default except V sync which is adaptive.I think affinity mask is at the moment 255 which seems to work well for me,I have the Flightsim Estonia tool "brilliant "which allows you to run in Legacy mode ,I ended up just tweaking the Legacy version to see the difference from standard favor P3dV2.,2 it seemed to work and I had the untweaked P3dv2.2 version running at 60+fps and the legacy tweaked version at 15fps ,yes i realty know what im doing !,I think it will remain untweaked ,well that is untill the latest bestist all singing dancing,100fps over new york with clouds at maxed and all sliders fully right solve all super TWEAK come along,I think every bloody movement of any slider effect other parts of the sim that maybe we don't realize,I am also starting to think that installing "some" addon,s can reset / alter settings,I decided to reinstall the wonderful Kodiak from Flight1 with P3Dv2.2 installer, simply doing that reset P3dv2.2 back to default setting ,I do not know why, I think MR VB stated LM do Know what they are doing and in my humble opinion he was bang on !,I think it is easy to lose your way with P3dv2.2 by not realizing that the slider are a lot stronger and wider in their effect,s than the sliders in fsx, maybe WE are the biggest FPS offenders peter
June 13, 201411 yr Bert and Spirit - actually I double checked my bios and I have HT set to AUTO - anyone who thinks I do not know what I am doing is sadly mistaken - my sim is picture perfect even with the AXE - so your on your own as it appears no one appreciates the help - instead of throwing stones at least try them first Carlito your comment is BS and if you new what you are talking about Robs settings will only work for his identical computer for the most part and right off the bat his cpu is very different than most - so your comment is way off base - I tried Robs settings and they are not the best for my system nor most others Rich Sennett
June 13, 201411 yr Commercial Member So it appears Rich has got HT on? With an alternating bit pattern for Logical Processors, AM=84 seems fair. However another way is an AM=168, which places the three main threads in the secondary LPs of the last three cores. Can help windows avoid plonking more threads on the core, but as usual is dependent on other stuff. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
June 13, 201411 yr Re: Robs settings. They appear to work for him, but bring things on my system to a screeching halt. I'm sure Rob will chime in and mention that every system is different and promoting his ideas over anyone else's is silly. All situations are unique here... Great to have all the different ideas tried and reported upon here I think
June 13, 201411 yr seems like there is no global settings that will work for everyone. I have been playing with all sorts of settings, but since 2.2 performance have taken a dive. I cant live without cloud shadows, it is just too good to miss IMO, so I have to turn other settings down (the fact that I only fly in ORBX regions doesn't help). On my system the biggest offender is Clouds, I had to reduce the amount of layers in ASN and complexity / distance in P3D. I was expecting better results after getting a 780 but it is what it is :( In the meantime, thank you all for sharing your experience/settings and helping each others out! Happy landings John.
