Chrome doesn't want me to download Squamish

Featured Replies

Chrome stops the download and declares that the Squamish zip file is "malicious" software. Has anyone else had that issue?

I have - on my two attempts on the first day it became available on the FSS website.

It is the first time I have experienced that.

If the back-up disk does not arrive today for me to use to install it, I will try with another browser.

That is also where I purchased it. I wonder if their server has been compromised? I doubt it, but it pays to be safe.

I scanned the file with Norton, and it says the file is safe, for what that is worth.

I had the same problem with Chrome, so I used IE ... after I downloaded with IE I scanned with my Anti-virus/malware software ... it's fine.  IE also automatically scans it.

No idea why Chrome had it blacklisted, but the file is safe.

Cheers, Rob.

I went ahead and installed it without issue. And wow. That is one cool area. The approach into the tiny runway is a hoot.

I've had lots of issues unsuccessfully downloading on Chrome recently. Among these, Flightbeam Phoenix!

I found a work-around for it though.

1 - Click settings (the three - - - vertically stacked)

2 - Click settings in the dropdown menu.

3 - Scroll to bottom and select "Show advanced settings."

4 - "Uncheck" the box saying Enable phishing and malware protection.

You're good to go!

Why are you guys using browsers to download large files? You should always without fail, use a download manager. Why? Because a DLM will resume a lost or interrupted connection, and all Orbx servers support resuming - allowing a lost connection of a 3GB file to continue if it is at 97%, for example.

I have been using GetRight as my DLM for a decade, it's free. Furthermore, GetRight allows you to use up to four concurrent connections to the same server, effectively doubling your download speed or more. The four connection option is included in the free version.

I even use a DLM to download large files from our own development servers.

We've had some recent feedback from customers about failed downloads and almost all of the reports are from those not using a DLM.

Cheers,

John Venema

I use a download manager for group downloads, but usually just click and download when it is only a single file. I will look at GetRight which sounds very nice.

And in any case, it turns out the file was fully downloaded but Chrome wanted to delete it for me before I unzipped it. When I told it not to do that all was well and the file worked as designed.

Thank you for the very complete and informative response!

I get a similar message in IE when a file is fairly new, so it hasn't been downloaded often yet.

For the DLMs:

Sometimes FDM has enabled larger downloads for me (4 - 6 GB in size) when IE couldn't handle it.

Just recently I had two large downloads (~ 7 GB each) which IE did handle ... and even downloaded them faster than FDM did?!?

What happened to AVSIM

I've stopped using Chrome, as it seems they've been dropping the ball lately on breaking something with each new update.

I'm currently using the new Opera and it's working great.

Hey John, Chrome and IE pretty much have their own download managers built it ... I've done 8 concurrent downloads with Chrome and 4 Concurrent with IE.  Both Chrome and IE (latest versions) will pickup downloads from where they left off if interrupted.  No issues with speed.

But thanks for Squamish JV, fantastic airport and surrounding area, very well done!

Cheers, Rob.

After my post on 13 June, I tried downloading by IE and everything went okay.

As I said in that earlier post, this is the first time I have experienced something like this with Google Chrome.

I have never suffered interruptions during downloads with Chrome, IE or Mozilla Firefox.

The only other download problem with flight sim products I have previously experienced was that which I posted about 3 weeks ago where I purchased 5 products from a European store. They were all airports, but by different developers. Four of them downloaded successfully via Chrome. The fifth would not even start downloading. The store was of little help to me but some days later, with assistance from the very co-operative developer, I was able to successfully download via IE after earlier attempts via IE and Mozilla were also unsuccessful in even getting the product to commence to download.

Exactly - if you don't use this method you will have the same problems with Flightbeam exes also

This problem with Chrome seems fairly widespread.

I have just noticed on the FlightBeam forum that someone posted about getting the "malicious" message when trying to download the new FlightBeam KDEN with Chrome. A subsequent attempt with IE was successful.

What is it with Chrome that the other browsers don't have a problem with?
