P3D & FSX - what's different/better/worse?

Featured Replies

to be fair; the product is being developed.

it has allot of issues to resolve as they progress, it is not fully mature yet

LM is committed to a long haul developing;

the product is to be expected to mature with time,

until it is stable enough to take over FSX stability; with current addons

let’s not forget the  move to x64 is going to be huge

but also requires allot of preparation in advance

i am convinced if we all come back to this thread a year from now

it will be a different picture as far as P3D is concerned

Let's be fair, here. I would imagine that any recording software, with P3D, running on that particular generation of cpu is going to stutter. Even more current cpu's show stutters when recording. IMHO.

Recording softwares can make sim heavy and stutters, that's true. However, there's a simple method to prove that P3d is not stuttering on one's machine, recording monitor with digital camera or smartphone. There's not a single evidence of such kind on youtube. Thus, I don't belive people claiming they have no stutters below 60fps.

You make a good point with regards to the digi cam. I too, have yet to see such a video. I admit, I do get the micro stutter, in orbx territory. No matter how many fps (high of 80 fps) I'm getting, the ground shakes the lower I fly. I have always chalked up my issues, to my aging hardware. Fortunately, most of my flying is above 20,000 ft in the Q400, and I am more interested in what is happening in the vc, than on the ground. Maybe 'smooth' is a pipe dream...Who knows, maybe v2.3 will be 'the holy grail'.

  Cheers, Jazz.

I really don't understand people who complain that P3D is bad because they have stutters at maximum settings. So tell me - why there would be those sliders at all? What is their purpose?

It is much better to have software that is capable of doing more, because in one, two years you would upgrade your hardware and put sliders more to the right.

Optimization is always good, but LM just proved that at the same settings P3D is much smoother than FSX.

What a lot of twaddle!!

In a nutshell..

FSX - no longer supported or developed by Microsoft

P3D - ongoing development by Lockheed Martin who have the licence for ESP, the pro version of FSX

P3D in version 2.2 now.. 5-6 times modded, compared to FSX

FSX on my laptop sucked. P3Dv1.4, as I do not have DX11 on my laptop, far smoother.

So, if you want old technology, FSX is the one to go/stick to.

If you want new technology that is being constantly upgraded, P3D.

Yes, settings in P3D are much smoother & do not have to be maxed out.

Remember, they say that our eyes cannot really distinguish more than 25fps anyway!

Also, there is no holy grail.

We all have different systems & the software will run differently on each & every one.

Try spend more time flying than tweaking!

Well said, although I still love my FSX for many reasons, PD3 V2.2 is really smooth and visually stunning. They will sort out the stutters not that I really ever notice any.
