Most of them suck, to put it bluntly. They have too much open mesh, or too much plastic, or their interior design is horrible.

That's your subjective opinion though, in terms of aesthetics. I'm sure you don't mean interior design in terms of functionality, given the impressive functionality of many of the new cases. Aesthetics as I say are purely subjective, I'll leave the buyer, and you, to consider that. My advice to others is purely in terms of potentially useful features. Clearly we have to take our own aesthetic, and indeed functional requirements, out of the equation when advising others. It's what the OP "may" find useful that's important.

 

 

But again, regardless of what the three of us think, mostly cases come down to personal preference and not practicalilty.

 

 

 

Yes, there are some that simply buy a case that looks cool. I think most enthusiasts choose based on a balance between aesthetic considerations and features though. Few of us would buy a case with awesome features that looks downright ugly. Actually that reminds me of the Haf X. :lol:

Go read the specs Martin, they do not come with top fans and that is what I said.  It has nothing to do with the fact that you can buy a fan and mount it in the top.  They do not come with one and when paying that much money for a case I would not buy one without a top exhaust fan included.

I got my build from pcspecialist 3 months ago and just had to disable my OC and run at the default. I phoned up tech line and they gave me instructions but also mentioned they will help me increase it slowly till i find what part is stable!

You will be going mad trying everything tweaking FSX windows 7 uninstalling FSX all the ADDONS.

 

I would hate to be on your road if you go for that why not get the OC disable it and get it up and running for a while and slowly introduce it like the tech guys are going to do for me!

 

Sorry if am talking bollocks i haven't really got a clue on Comp and i don't care i've learn't enough over these 3 months fiddling about with this build and all along it was down to the OC. I was warned before hand but didn't listen! I'm not saying don't get it just don't run it at MAX get it stabled without the OC first.

build finished....with stock Intel cooler and an Antec Mid tower case....if I am just looking at the Windows desktop, the CPU temps are about 29C.

 

I start P3D and it jumps to 55C.

 

If I start flying it jumps to about 65C - 75C....am thinking, even without overclocking, this thing will need an aftermarket cooler....am thinking of the Noctua DH14 (if the massive thing can fit)

I've order my case last week an Antec P100, really nice and fit my home cockpit (aluminum look).

I have a choice with a Cosmos SE or the Antec and pick the last one for it's price and look.

 

The cosmos SE is nice but it was looking too gaming IMO.

The Haf X when released in 2010 was £159. The Corsair 760T with a plethora of extra functionality that the HAf hasn't got is £134.56 on Amazon. Great value and extra features.

The extra cost for fans is minor, you would spend more than that at your local fast food outlet. If your mind set is such that you would reject the latest enclosure, with a myriad of useful features that the HAf X hasn't got... just because you had to spend a few quid for fans, your logic is baffling. I suspect it's just an excuse to deride the enclosure in an attempt to back up your argument.

 

Not forgetting of course that most users [including the OP, who my suggestions were aimed at] will be installing a Corsair AIO cooler on the top, not fans.

As far as filters, the HAF-X does not have filters and if it did I would take them out. I keep the inside of my case cleaned out so I do not need them, filters just clog, reduce airflow and something else to have to clean.

That's great for you. But my comments weren't aimed at assisting you. my comments are aimed at the OP, who may well desire dust filters. Most people do.

 

We should take our own aesthetic and functional requirements out of the equation when helping others, and inform them when an enclosure lacks a popular feature!

 

You have said, that your fans on your Haf X are set low, thus any slight increase in fan rpm due to filter restriction would be barely noticeable. I can tell you from personal experience, that filters restricting airflow isn't an issue in practice. The filters aren't that fine, they are only designed to filter some of the dust.

 

As for "they clog" again, not true in practice. When you vacuum your room, you just whiz that vacuum across the front of your case... job done.

PC enclosure chassis are grounded via the PSU mounting.

 

If that were an issue then PC's all around the world would be dropping like flies.

 

Sometimes you do get badly desighned enclosures with grounding issues, in which case you would know it, as even static builld up from carpets causes problems. An Antec model springs to mind. The sollution in that case is to RMA the defective product.

 

A normal properly designed non faulty enclosure won't cause any issues in this respect.

 

In regard to the Antec model I mentioned, it was caused because Antec Included a plastic panel that isolated the front of the case from the rest of the chassis. Some owners were fabricating their own grounding straps to fix the issue.

 

I should mention that here in the UK, if a PC chassis wasn't grounded it would contravene the Institute of Electrical Engineers regulations and be illegal.

I didn't even bother with the stock cooler it looked a bit weak for the job at hand I installed my h110 from the get go.

i took a chance and bought a asus z97-A and its great, i was shocked actually on how well it performed, i think i also have a golden 4790k, i can run at 4.8 ghz and stay under 75c,across all 4 cores, 4.9 on 2 cores, so i just backed it off to 4.7 to stay around 65c, i am also running the stock gtx 780 and h110, 16 gigs of hyperx beast, your cpu as always will be the luck of the draw, i bought mine at the tigerdirect store and only had 3 left.

Don't forget the new NH-D15 is now available. Better ram clearence.

 

And dont forget the Archon, despite being a single tower desgn It cools great with no ram clearence issues.

Arrgh!  I humbly apologize to the OP.  My Maximus IV Extreme/3770K has partially bought the farm.  Two PCIe lanes are out and the NF200 chip looks to be toast.  So, since the Maximus VII Extreme will allegedly not be developed in leiu of the new X99 boards to be released, I will be purchasing a Maximus VI Extreme mobo and a 4790K Devil's Canyon CPU.  OC TBD...  I can't even manage to follow my own advice.  Must be karma. :blink:
