Recommended Posts

This is certainly very exciting!

How long until the first flight then? 2015?

Airbus put up some great shots on Facebook. Here's 2 of them:

Were the landing gear lengthened/made higher for the new engine?

Somebody posted this comparison shot on A.net:

From what I can see, to fit the much larger engine, they completely changed the pylon so that the engine actually sits higher.

Wow!! Landing that thing in a slip is a big no no during crosswind from what I can see. One small bank and the engine touches the ground

If you actually measure the height of the engines from the ground, you will see that there is very little difference between the old and the new. Like Jesse has stated, the new engine is mounted higher on the pylon than the old one.

I'm very interested to see the reliability/longevity of the new PW geared turbofan engines...

The winglets on them are more like the 737 now, I have even seen that upgrade on older A320's already with the Air New Zealand fleet. It does look better. Engines look cool as well

Haha kinda like the DC-8 when they put the CFM's on them.

It looks kinda ugly with those new engines kinda ruins the lines.

I like those big engines, they make A32- look a lot better in my opinion.

Sharklets look great too, already flew on a brand new Finnair A321 with those.

This is by no means scientific....

The other thing about that angle not taken into consideration is the engines sit forward of the main landing gear and are therefore much higher off the ground when the nose is raised on that sort of cross wind landing.

Not sure how this is an issue as it sounds like unfounded speculation to me.

Agree. One would be in a world of hurt if that engine struck before the gear or the wing tip as far as that matters!

As a a mainly Boeing person.but no loyalty. I have to admit she's a slick bird

Looking at the image analysis, it seems there's more room for bank than I thought. That kind of bank would never be used on an airliners I imagine, it would be a combination of skid and slip, so no worries there!
