Vernon, you are just getting too many crashes. This is getting very frustrating not only for me but for the whole AVSIM community. The answer to your question is in the AVSIM CTD Guide under StackHash crashes. The AVSIM CTD Guide has several possible solutions. There is no fixed solution that works for every situation so you have to conduct an investigation of your computer system and try to find out what is killing your system almost every time you turn it on. You say in several other threads that you had your system built. I think it is about time you contacted that company and tell them your problems as you could have a defective part. A bad overclock, such as a bad CPU voltage setting could cause this type of crash. A bad memory module could cause this type of problem. A bad memory timing or voltage could cause this type of crash. The last four digits next to StackHash (the faulting module) is the memory address where your crash occurred on your computer. It's impossible to find what is located at that memory address. StackHash crashes are easily solved by reinstalling Windows unless, like the AVSIM CTD Guide says, if you own My Traffic X, 5.4c, this will cause this crash (but I think we have already discussed that in one of the other topics you have posted). I have a feeling you threw in a tweak in your FSX.cfg that someone suggested you throw in there to make your computer operate superfast and make FSX perform flawlessly and it was a wrong suggestion. If you do not have My Traffic X and you did not touch your overclock settings or even open up the BIOS, and your memory modules are working perfectly like we have discussed in the past, then you will need to completely reinstall Windows and then FSX. The StackHash crash is like a virus, a piece of Malware. You don't know what it will do next. Your only solution is to destroy it.

You have posted so many problems with your computer we could write a lengthy book. I do have one suggestion for tracking down or investigating your issue to find out what might be causing your crashes. I am worried though I might have told you before and you failed to use the suggestion but I will pass it on again. It involves using Process Monitor and what it will do is tell you what was loading at the time FSX crashed. I used this method to discover that My Traffic X was the cause of my StackHash crashes and, when I disabled My Traffic X in the Scenery Library and ran the flight again, no crashes!!! Here's how:

Setting up the Process Monitor for FSX – Another investigative tool used to pin down a situation where FSX/P3D freezes, crashes, or stutters/pauses during a flight is to run a utility called Process Monitor - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645. During your flight, this utility monitors activity such as calling textures, AI aircraft schedules, ATC, weather updates, and scenery loading. When FSX/P3D stutters or FPS drop dramatically you simply write down the time it occurred. This is important as thousands of entries are made every minute, every second. Continue doing this throughout the flight. Of course, if it freezes, you will know what was going on before the sim froze. This utility will not show you a definitive cause of your issue but it will show you what add-ons were being loaded about when you received the stutter, the long pause(s), and the freeze and you can further investigate by disabling that scenery, that aircraft, or whatever might have caused the event. One member used this utility to determine that My Traffic X, version 5.4c was the cause of a BEX/StackHash/NTDLL.dll crash he was getting. It was easy to disable My Traffic X in the Scenery Library and find that FSX no longer crashed.

AVSIM recommends you do not run a flight any longer than 60 minutes as the Process Monitor log becomes quite large. For a 60 minutes flight, expect the file to be at least as large as 8GB’s or tens of millions of captured events. Make sure you delete the log or move it to another drive after you have finished your testing to free up HDD space. Another recommended tip is to make sure you use system time to mark the time of each event and do not use an external clock unless they are sync’d. Going through one minute of a glitch is a massive amount of data needed to be reviewed (it goes fast as thousands of entries just show a scenery being loaded).

To run this utility properly, you need to capture only FSX/P3D events. It would be nearly impossible to find a possible glitch if Windows events or other system activities were being logged too. AVSIM recommends opening of the Process Monitor when you are on the active runway and preparing to takeoff to save space on your HDD:

Open Process Monitor. Click on the Filter tab and then Filter….
Display entries matching these conditions:
Where it says Architecture, click on that and select “Process Name”
Go next to the blank box and click on that and select FSX or P3D.exe and make sure “Include” is shown (FSX or P3D must be running when you do this!!). Once completed, click on Add and then click OK at the bottom of the form and Go Fly.

You can use the utility while in Full Screen mode or Windowed Mode. In Windowed Mode you can monitor what is happening instantly but it is best to run Process Monitor in Full Screen (unless you are seeing freezes in Windowed Mode).

When the flight is finished, immediately go to the Process Monitor application and hit Ctrl+E on your keyboard to capture the events (event logging will continue until you do this). Shutdown FSX/P3D and begin your investigating!

When you are finished using the Process Monitor, make sure you delete that log created by Process Monitor.

Best regards,

Hi jim i got an ezdok stack hash ctd ezdok wouldn't even load up with fsx but when it did it crashed but not fsx. Its all out of control now i thought that was all the crashes done with but i was wrong its came back with a vengance now. Its impossible now to pin point too many crashes. Kernelbase.dll stackhash etc

Its like taking a stab in the dark now. Had enough of it.

Maybe its that DEP thats causing it i'm sure i turned it off i could try admin rights too

Awesome news Vernon! Good luck! You should never turn off DEP. It's a security component for your computer for a reason. In any case it will not work as I turned mine off when I had a StackHash and no joy. Still got the StackHash. This is why it is not a recommendation in the AVSIM CTD Guide.

With the ASUS board, it is easy to go back to the optimized defaults via the BIOS and this has helped fix the crashes for many here. I can only get my super system overclocked to 4.2. If I try an overclock to 4.3 or 4.4 it will work great for a week, maybe a month before I'll see unexplained NTDLL.dll and StackHash crashes. Go back to 4.2 and the system is totally stable.

Thanks its my last resort so hoping it works out. And the company is going to help me find the sweet over clock once i know its stable at default. Will i loose performance once i go back?

Will i loose performance once i go back?

No. FSX works great with the default optimal settings.

Got rid of kernelbase and that was replaced by the stack hash got it last night again haha maybe it wasn't the OC? But i disabled MTX and then that was replaced by the MSV80 CTD they've been all lining up waiting till kill my computer lol

Hmm back to the drawing board for the MSV80 lets see what replaces that one!

Does that crashes work if there is more than one?

ok i know am going on a little here but if i mention all my solutions and work i'm doing to prevent these maybe someone who has the same problem reads this and it will help them too

well i have disabled MTX no stack hash and also turned off OC woohoo

i have also rebuilt my fsx.cfg and haven't added any tweaks only highmemfix=1 and wideaspect tweak too

i have been using bufferpools poolsize=0 and affinity mask 14 which i haven't included so hoping removing them solves these CTD once and for all

whats the difference between these two codes simmers? on my latest appcrash just trying to understand all of this
