Turning off my over clock

I'm getting another crash, stack hash first it was the kernelbase.dll but thats gone since doing a windows 7 repair, well i hope. There just all linin up lol Alot of people are saying to turn off my OC as this is causing it to be unstable.

 

Can i safely turn it off and see if my crashes go away? Or will i send my build back to pcspecialist to see if its hardware related.

 

It came custom built and over clocked from pcspecialist.

Well, that's a decision only you can make, based on your confidence levels.

 

I doubt resetting to optimized defaults would invalidate any warranty, but you could always check with the supplier just in case.

 

If you decide to, it would be best to save the overclock profile. You will find a utility to do that within the UEFI. That way, if it turns out that it wasn't your OC at fault, you will be able to restore the overclock settings.

 

It's not difficult to simply reset the UEFI to optimized defaults, and to be honest, it is the first logical step when trouble shooting.

Just called the company told me what to do reboot comp press delete bios - advanced mode - ai tweaker - ai oc tuner (auto) enter

 

Sounds easy lol and there going to help me if i have any problems when doing it and they will slowly help me increase it to find the right OC

Have you considered using the Asus auto overclock feature? Most Asus boards have a TPU switch on the motherboard. The feature is also available from within Ai Suite. Once you flip the switch, or activate it via Ai Suite, you get something like a 4.2-4.3 overclock automatically, with no messing about required.

 

Given your lack of experience with these things, it may be your best option.

 

Overclocking with the assistance of your supplier though, with them walking you through it, would be a good learning experience.

That's a new one on me. For my motherboard it's a small toggle switch.

well thats the OC turned off as of last night i'll give it a week till i start to increase it.

 

how much do they increase it by?

Before you start increasing it run memtest86 to make sure you dont have a faulty ram module, test one stick at a time, once that is done and if they pass boot in to windows as normal and run prime95 for an hour or so to make sure your hardware is running as it should be as it pointless trying an overclock until you know your cpu and ram is fine.

ok no worries to be honest my fsx is running just the same when i had the OC on

 

i also just removed Bufferpools poolsize=0 and affinity mask 14 tweak as i think these have been causing CTD

Bufferpools and AF shouldn't cause CTD's.

CTD'S blue screens and freezes can all be overclock related.

Well i have removed them to rule out the cause!

 

I'm close to re-installing windows 7 at the moment but haven't had any problems today!

 

Removing those tweaks i've actually seen better performance or infact no difference.

It sounds like your bios needs an update. Asus has released several bios updates in the last 12 months to

improve stability. You can go to the asus website, and check your hardware and see if any updates are available.

If you do flash your bios, all of your o/c settings will be set to default. Hope this helps,Chris Longo

Check with your supplier before you even think about a BIOS upgrade.  Most suppliers of overclocked machines will cancel your warranty if you update the bios
