Can't see the landing lights on the runway from the cockpit at night

Recommended Posts

Hi all

This problem has just happened. A few days ago i installed a new aircraft and i suspect a file has been either deleted or overwritten.

The landing lights do appear on the runway in spotview, but not from inside the cockpit.

Any ideas which files i need to copy across from my fs9 backup?

Thanks

Trevor

First check in fs9.cfg if SEE_SELF is at 0 or 1. It should be at 1.

I have an Electra II that drove me to drink with the same problem.  I've been told it's a model issue.  I don't think it can be fixed without a major rework of the aircraft model.  I'll be checking back to see if you find a way.  Good luck...

Hi Luis

Thanks - that's the one "what dunnit"!!!!  I don't understand why it was changed in the .cfg file -- maybe gremlins!!!

Now all is working as per normal - thanks again.

Trevor

So Trevor,

Just so I understand, was the problem only with new aircraft you installed, or all aircraft?

My SEE_SELF is at 1, and I only have the problem you described when I fly my Electra II.  All other planes are normal.

Thanks for the time,

GD

I think your issue is separate. It occurs on models built with outdated development software - in most cases they are pre-FS2004 models but some developers still continued to use the old software (stretching my memory but I think it may have been FSDS). There is absolutely nothing you can do about it, I'm afraid.

FSDS (Flight Sim Design Studio from Abacus) modeling software in version 1 I think did not support a surface illumination in the cockpit view. That was fixed in the next version. Spot view did show the illumination effect from the lights.
