DoveTail Games Buys Licensing Deal with Microsoft

Featured Replies

The community will have to move to another platform and fast as I'm sure MS will shut down activation servers trying to help push users to the Steam version (look at how they pushed W8).  It's beyond time for many in this community to wise up and look at other options...

You're right. It seems logical that Microsoft should shutdown activation from the time that DT will start selling. Otherwise would be the dumbest thing for DT not have an agreement on that!

Why do people keep saying that if dovetail games mess up fsx atleast our community will get bigger? I think that our community is big enough and on the other hand i dont want a bunch of people who have nooo information whatsoever about aviation start "playing" with fsx and turn it into a regular game! who pretty much anyone can play it. our community is special and i would love for it to stay like that

Just my 2 cents

Right, take a deep breath everybody.....

 - FSX will continue to work regardless off the activation server doomsday scenarios.

 - If you don't like what DTG does with their new product nobody is forcing you to use it. There is still FSX, P3D and XP10 with plenty of content available to keep everybody busy for a very long time.

 - We are no worse off than we were before this news.

 - The sky is not falling.

I agree with all your points, but the first one is missing something; what if we format our HDD or buy a new computer? That means no more FSX until you buy it again on Steam.

There's no way MS is going to keep supporting something that another developer is actively selling with MS receiving no profit from.  Look at what they announced with FLIGHT as an example of things to come.  They will tell you to go talk to DT about activation as they are handling the product now (I just went through this with Aerofly FS where the company told me to talk to Steam when my product would no longer install).  People in this thread have already outlined the affect on third party payware products.  People better wise up...

Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

This is why we need to move elsewhere as soon as possible. I hope Prepar3D 2.3 will fix most of the problems people are having so FSX can be ditched by more.

From what Rob has been reporting I would not count on 2.3 to be much of an upgrade but still happy the work is on going

If they are stupid enough to shut down FSX activation servers then just go around the activation. I believe any legal customer should have the right to use FSX as long as he/she wishes without having to buy another copy.

Remember that currently 2.3 is in its first beta. I'm sure there's still plenty to be done, considering that they're mainly focusing on performance now.

Microsoft is making a profit.. Hence a "Licensing deal" not a "Buyout".. Without a doubt MS gets a percentage of royalties from the sale of the core game and any and all DLC produced for it.  MS is the pimp, DTG will be the working girls on the streets

You are making a terribly large (and incorrect) assumption there Dillon. The original contract terms REQUIRED a commission on sales to be made to MS. That may have changed in subsequent closing negotiations with MS, but I seriously doubt it.

How do you know that with such certainty as to sound like fact?

If the money was large enough to matter they'd still be producing the title.  I don't think whatever kick back they get is going to keep them from saying, "Go to DT for all future support" and then DT saying "You'll have to re-purchase the Steam version for full support".  It just stinks that way...
