Right now Im running a lynnfield i5 750 1156 quad clocked at 3.9ghz with an nvidia 560ti.    The addons I use are asn, pmdg ngx, rex, and some orbx na with the latest cfg tweaks.  FSX runs smooth as butter most of the time but flying into high detail addon airports in large cities causes to fps to drop into the 20's.  Do you think I will see much of a performance boost by upgrading to a 680 and a newer socket 1150 cpu or is it not worth the money and time investment right now.

I have the GTX 780 and the i7 4770K overclocked to 4.2GHz and have exactly the same issues you are encountering. I do not think there is a magic bullet for having high fps in high detail addon airports. I have accepted the fact this will never be fixed even with a super computer. 20 fps or even 15 fps are awesome for any computer system. I only have to worry about fps on preparing for takeoff and landing. I would not upgrade right now. Perhaps Dovetail will do something to the engine to make things smoother and, of course, there is always FSPS Fiber Accelerator just released and being discussed in the FSX forum.

Thanks for the reply. I tried the demo for fs fiber accelerator and all it did for me was unlock the frame rate when at high detail areas which gave me the same fps as I got without it using an external limiter.  Ive realized alot of the problem I was having with high detail areas had do do with the mouse cursor issue and the ngx, as long as I can keep the cursor hidden I get smooth performance.   It seems now that my biggest killer is large storm systems with lots of high cumulonimbus using asn.  I wonder if upgrading my gpu would help in this area, are clouds more gpu or cpu dependant?
