PMDG Weather Radar

Recommended Posts

Hi,

As everyone has been doing, I downloaded the Service pack of the 777 yesterday. To start off with it's a GREAT update, especially the Weather Radar.

When I installed it and did everything necessary, I went to start my flight and up to my disappointment the Radar didn't show anything, and yes, in stormy weather!

It just says -

WX+T

+2M

VAR

I tried changing gain but not even one piece of Green block showed up.

Once again, a great update, but I'd highly appreciate any solutions.

Thanks in advance!

Scandinavian, does the weather radar only work if you have ASN?

Quote from the updated introduction manual on 777

THE COLLINS WXR-2100 WEATHER RADAR
SP1 includes for the first time in PMDG’s history a realistic simulation of an aviation weather radar system - in this case the Collins WXR-2100 unit commonly found on the 777 and other airliners. Most of the major functions are simulated including manual tilt, auto tilt, gain, WX+T turbulence detection mode, and the Predictive Windshear System (PWS).
Active Sky Next requirement:
The WXR-2100 simulation in SP1 requires the most recent version of the Active Sky Next (ASN) or later weather engine by HiFi Simulations. ASN is the first weather addon to output an external 3D precipitation model, which we’ve used to accurately model the operation of the radar. The weather radar does not currently function with default FSX weather or with any other weather addon. We will evaluate supporting other weather addons on a case-by-case basis if they can provide similar 3D precipitation data output.
ASN can be purchased here: http://www.hifitechinc.com/products/activeskynext

Thank you for the information, BIGSKY.

I've been debating if I should purchase ASN, and it's starting to seem like a worthwhile investment.

I am starting to lean towards purchasing it as well. Will wait for my birthday on Wednesday though to see more feedback.

Never gave ASN much thought until now LOL!   I will also have to purchase now at some point, but it is slightly expensive for me at the moment so I will just have to be a little patient!

Kind regards

Did you hit the Wxr button also on the MCP ? or you won't see anything.

Done that.

Do you have Active Sky Next?

Yep, In fact I purchased it just for the sake of getting the Radar, So it would be a huge let down if it wouldn't work!

Regarding the TEST feature , when pressed I get the wind shear recording how ever I don't get a test "sweep" that should light up the display in colors. Is ASN required for that TEST feature to work?

I have ASN, and I don't get the "test" display either, but the weather radar does work as expected (when there's rain of course).
