Clouds and SGSS 4x

Recommended Posts

The only setting I use with NI is forcing SGSS 4x.  But I notice now that every time I look towards heavy clouds, FPS drops massively (cloud shadows are disabled at the moment).  Didn't this issue get fixed in v2.2, disabling AA for clouds?  Or is this an ongoing problem, or just a problem for me.

It's an ongoing problem. Everyone is having problems getting good AA (well, with acceptable performance that is) and clouds are a problem for everyone.

I've gotten better performance in heavy clouds from FS Global Real Weather than from the Active Sky Next P3D beta, though I prefer the appearance of ASN.  Limiting cloud coverage and cloud draw distance helps with both, though with obvious tradeoffs.  Am also running 4xSGSS in NI.  Like many others, I'm waiting for a better fix from LM or NVidia or both.

Agreed, ASN is probably the biggest FPS killer on my system, even though I've tweaked it to run with only 2 cloud layers. I too prefer the looks of ASN, but for now am using FS Global Real Weather. Am also running with 4xSGSS in NI.
