Featured Replies

Jim,

Thanks for the follow up.

.AFM comes FREE with the Pilots Mesh product.

"AFM is a free DVD for all registered users of FS Global 2010 und FS Global Ultimate - The Americas. A S&H fee of EUR 10.-- applys. Users of FS Global Ultimate - Europe/Africa will find AFM as a seperate DVD in their box. So if you upgrade FS Global 2010 to Ultimate - Europe/Africa you even save the S&H fee!"

I may just get the Pilots (Ormx) Vector next and wait for a North America landclass .. I do not fly Europe a whole lot.

Best Regards,

Where do I go to get help with downloading and unzipping and installing FS Global.????

When I downloaded FS Global (the second zip file ie PILOTsFSG2010FTX.z01) using Internet Download Manager, it shows up in the file I downloaded with a 'page' icon vs. the little 'vice' icon normal for zip files.

Does this mean it did not download properly?

I cannot find meaningful download instructions other than using a "hash generator" to generate a MD5 value based on a string. What string?

Where can I find help at Pilot's?

Thanks Carl

You should have 5 "z0x" files plus a "zip" file downloaded.

PILOTsFSG2010FTX.z01 through  PILOTsFSG2010FTX.z05 and PILOTsFSG2010FTX.zip

Six downloads of roughly 4 GB each.

After you extract the files in the ZIP file you will get another folder "PILOTsFSG2010FTX"  that

contains  14 files, one of which is an "exe" file.

Running the EXE file will start the installation process.

It sounds as though you may not have downloaded the entire set of files...all 25 GB worth.

Thanks for the quick reply! And help.

I have only download two files so far. I was concerned the second one i.e. PILOTsFSG2010FTX.z01 had a funny icon AND a funny extension (ie .z01 versus .zip). Not the usual vice like zip icon, simply a page icon with the upper right corner 'dog eared'!? It looked strange so I stopped.

Do you think the second file downloaded right i.e. as a zip file... even though the icon is different?

I will download more tonight.

Carl

Those 'funny icons' are normal. You need to continue downloading all 5 "z" files and the final "zip" file. Unzip the zip file. Go to the new folder it creates and run the "PILOTsFSG2010FTX.exe" that is in that folder. Be sure to right click and "Run as administrator".

I downloaded those files into a folder whare I keep all my FSX Payware downloads and just named it "Global Mesh 2010" but that can be any folder anywhere you wish.

When you "Extract files here" from the ZIP file, it creates the "PILOTsFSG2010FTX" folder in that download folder. Once you begin the installer it will ask you what drive you want to place the files. I chose my E: drive initially (My FSX is on my X: drive)  A folder "PILOTS_Software" will be installed into your FSX folder but that only contains a cfg file, some manual PDF files in several languages and a few other files. The actual mesh files wind up in the folder "FSGX2010" in the ROOT of the drive you chose to install them in. That folder contains 8 folders that contain the mesh for the various areas.

After I installed my new 500 GB SSD drive I moved those files from my E: drive to the J: drive on the SSD and then re-ran the install file but chose to just update the links...the other option from "Install all files" or something like that. I believe the manual explains that. Also, I think the page where the download links are located has some install information.

Great! Good clarity! Will continue to download. Then try to follow your other instructions. I currently have most of my scenery on its own drive except for some things that want to install in my FSX folder which has its own location on my C drive.

Say, how do you like your SSD drive? Is it internal or external? I have a hybrid drive in my computer but I can not tell if it is partitioned so that only my system files use it. It boots up really fast which is convenient!

I will keep you posted!

Thanks again.

=======================

Download last file now. Had a hard time today getting a good download connection. Will try to install this week-end.

Not sure what you mean by "in the ROOT of the drive you chose to install them in"? Where in the drive is that found? I have not come across one of those folders b4. Thanks.

The 'root' is something like C:\ or D:\ as opposed to C:\some folder or D:\Mesh

You will just give it a drive to install to and it will create the folder something like

D:\FSGX2010

On my SSD's...I have 2 now. Both internal. The first is a 240 GB EVO 840 that is partitioned

as C: for Win7 and X: for FSX.

The new 500 GB drive has several partitions... O:\OrbX, J:\Addon Scenery, R:\P3d and a couple of others.

Win7 boots very fast even after I added a second user account for P3D to keep it isolated from

my FSX install.

FSX boots quite a bit faster as well although all the additional scenery and aircraft I have spread

around my system cause it to 'dwell' for a bit when launching FSX.

I have a hybrid drive in my gaming laptop along with a couple of SSD's but I haven't put that

through it's paces yet. I had it built specifically for flying FSX while I am on my 7-8 week annual

trips to Europe and multi-week trips to other places :)
