July 22, 201411 yr I downloaded MS Flight shortly after it was released. Downloaded (purchased Alaska and several planes). When I start the program it goes through the login page of Microsoft live. My account is still active but no more ms flight products. Reading your forum it looks Microsoft live servers for msflight are going to be shut down. Will effectly keep me from using the software I have? Is there any way to start/operate the program without logging into Microsoft live? Thanks for any help anyone may have.
July 22, 201411 yr You will still be able to login after the Flight servers are shutdown. They are only shutting down the servers that control multiplayer and the aerocaches. You should also still be able to download any DLC you purchased previously.
July 22, 201411 yr Author Thanks for your info., stonelance. I am not familiar with acronym DLC. When I connect to "Live" I no can no longer access the listing of all my purchases. I get some kind of error message. Do you know how to access prior purchases? Also, after crash on my other computer lost MS Flight. I downloaded MS Flight again. I am unable to download (or don't know how) any of my purchases to that machine, either. While I use FSX primarily, I enjoy MS Flight (particularly Alaska) and would like to keep as much of it going as possible. William B.
July 22, 201411 yr Hello William B,"DLC" refers to "Downloadable Content." I see that you are having some trouble connecting to LIVE. In which case, are you using the GFWL marketplace client which came with the game? If you are using Windows, you should see a folder called "Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace" on your all programs list, and inside, should be an application. If you are running this application, then please tell us what the error message is, so we can help. Kavinda J.D ^_^
July 22, 201411 yr Author KavindaJD Thanks for your response. Yes I am running Games for Windows Live. This program comes up and is how I log onto MS Flight. On left side of GFWL there are several choices one of which is "my downloads". When I click I get flag that says Connecting to GFWL - Client. It runs for few seconds and stops. I have done two things. Made sure my security protection allows my computer to log onto Windows Live and redownloaded the Games for Windows Live-Client software. Still am unable to reach the DLC's I purchased, Alaska, Hawaii, and several aircraft. Also I spent several hours today talking to Windows support from Costa Rica, Manilla, and India. To no avail. Any thoughts-help you can offer will be appreciated. WilliamB KavindaJD, Failed to answer your question. I searched for folder called "Microsoft Games for Windows Live" in my MS Flight Directory and searched for it my start menu. Either I am not searching correctly or I don't have it on my computer. WilliamB If it had been a snake it would have bit me!. I found program on my "All Programs" list. I am embarrassed to say I didn't know what you meant at first. When I run it I get a flag that says "Connection Error. WilliamB
July 23, 201411 yr Also I spent several hours today talking to Windows support from Costa Rica, Manilla, and India. To no avail. Any thoughts-help you can offer will be appreciated. Most times Support does not know right from left! If it had been a snake it would have bit me!. I found program on my "All Programs" list. I am embarrassed to say I didn't know what you meant at first. When I run it I get a flag that says "Connection Error. Hello William To fix the "Connection Error" you must install the latest Games For Windows Marketplace Client. (Version 3.5.67.0) First thing to do is uninstall the existing client in your PC (Goto Programs and Features to Uninstall it), if you don't, the update wont work. Then download the latest GFWM Client from Microsoft and install it. I just got it from this page Troubleshoot Games for Windows LIVE connection problems, the direct link in that page is here latest Games for Windows LIVE setup files. I did that on my PC a few months ago and just did it on my laptop and it works just fine I can now login and see all my purchases and DLC. Hope that helps Cheers. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
July 23, 201411 yr Author Kabronicus, Thanks very much. Did as you suggested and accessed my account with all my DLCs. I must have downloaded the Windows Live Client and installed it 5 times with no success. The key was uninstalling the version already on my Computer and then installing the Client software. Again can not thank you enough! WilliamB
July 23, 201411 yr Hello William, Sorry about that, I should have been clearer! The connection error was also discussed here. There was an unofficial update to the Client by Microsoft and if you haven't updated from the 2012 version, you will get the connection timed out error. This happened to everyone that was playing Flight and other GFWL games, since GFWL does not update itself automatically. As always, great to see that you got the problem solved! B) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Just a note (to everyone), when talking to Windows support, they only deal with the actual windows products on their site (i.e. Laptops, Office Software), and they are not very good with support in the field of gaming. I have contacted Microsoft many times but I was always directed to talk to the creators of the software (in this case Xbox). In the future, it would be best to contact the Microsoft Flight Community Coordinators if there are any problems with the Software (and also remember to post here in the forums!). Kavinda J.D ^_^
October 11, 201411 yr Author KavindaJD and Kabronicus, I am responding here because you helped me this topic in July. As I am still a "newbe" when it comes to Forum use I apologize in advance, if this is not proper way to handle. In July I updated my GFWL-Client as per your instructions and was able to access my MSFlight DLC. Yesterday I tried to access my DLC and got this error "Client must point to the same Windows Live ID environment as the Windows Live ID Asst. Service" . I deleted and reloaded GFWL-Client version 3.5.67.0. On access I still get the above error message. I am able to access my Windows Live Account through Xbox sign in page but find no access to MSFlight DLC. Need help. Would like to download some of my content as am enjoying MSFlight very much. Thanks WilliamB KavindaJD and Kabronicus, I noticed that the gfwlivesetup.exe that I download shows version 3.4.26.0 when I execute it the Games for Windows Marketplace shown in my list of programs file is 3.5.67.0. Could this be problem? WilliamB
October 11, 201411 yr It seems like this is a problem on Microsoft's end. I've been trying all week to get all my DLC but getting the same error. I've tried on Windows 10, and two Windows 7 PC's on different networks. Yesterday they posted on the official site: The game and any purchased downloadable content should still be available to play offline for players who activated their content before it was removed from distribution. We will continue assisting those players who are currently experiencing problems using the Games For Windows Live marketplace service to re-download their content. There is a known issue being investigated that will hopefully be restored soon. Last night I was able to get a bunch of my DLC installed as it worked, but I was so tired I had to shut down my PC to sleep and didn't get Alaska (I did get the prerequisites though) or Hawaii. I hope they fix it soon.
October 11, 201411 yr Author Waterman981, I had a suspicion it might be with Microsoft as my connection had worked until recently. Glad they are still considering those that are playing/committed to MS Flight. I have just got into some of the missions and find it quite enjoyable. Thanks. Guess I will have to be patient and maybe like you I will be able to get on if I keep trying. WilliamB
October 11, 201411 yr I'll have a version of my toolkit out sometime this week (hopefully today), that will ignore Live, and allow you to download whatever DLC you want. If you want your profile to carry over, make sure to install the toolkit and run the Addon Manager before starting Flight so it can extract the profile. http://www.flighttoolkit.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/FlightToolkit_1_0_12_0.zip
October 11, 201411 yr Cool! I did try using the toolkit (1.0.0.37032) to install the rest of my DLC. Hawaii seemed to kinda work... it would show it was available to purchase still via the map view. But Flight would crash immediately on adding the Alaska Wilderness Pack (with or withouth the Map Fix). Is it possible to point the toolkit to a local copy of the CAB files, rather than downloading them from Microsoft? (I've used the links listed to get backup copies of all my DLC on my home server archive)
October 11, 201411 yr Hello William, I have found a solution! I will post it when I have finished working on the steps! Stay tuned! @Steve: Looking forward to the next release! Good work! Like many on these forums, I have enjoyed watching the progress! Kavinda J.D ^_^

I haven't been able to do much work with the tools for a while and want to make sure I don't cludge something up by installing this new version. Thanks. Thank you.
