Too Low, Flaps

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

Since SP1, i did 3 flights, and on all three, something occured which i've never had before.
On approach: ILS, cap Loc, + GS, Vref + 5, barely any winds, flaps 20 as selected.
I get the Too low, flaps warning from 500ft.
Visually all is well and the landing is smooth and as supposed to be.
Just from 500ft till landing it's too low, flaps.
Never had this before SP1 and i've done more that 3 flights with that one :P

That's because flaps 20 is a non-standard landing setting. If you want to land with f20, then hit the gpws inhibit button

Cause you are supposed to land with flaps 25 or 30.

Flaps 20 is abnormal highspeed landing. In case of engine fail for example.

Cant see why you woild like to land with flaps 20?

Never had this before SP1

Then you haven't been trying to land with flaps 20 before SP1. As stated before, flaps 20 is only used as a landing flap setting in abnormal procedures. Normal procedure dictates either flap 25 or 30.

I landed flaps 20 multiple times before SP1, and never had that warning before.

But you are right.

30 and 35 for normal. BA did 25 or so.
But i did 20's before without the aural.

If I remember correctly, before SP1, I did perform one approach at flaps 20, and I did have the warning.

Are you sure you didn't select GPWS inhibit?

In any case, FCTM 5.6 will give you more info.

I think I saw somewhere that it wasn't correct prior to SP1 - I just never noticed it because I usually go by Boeing procedures unless I have specific direction to test something.

Either way:

Flap 20 is non-normal and requires the GPWS override.

So.

Stop doing your Flaps 20 landings if you are not doing non-normal procedures. =)
