Computer Freezing And Making Loud Buzzing Noise

Last weekend I built my new computer which I have been saving up for about 6 months and was really excited to use it. I have since ran into an issue with it freezing every few hours and when it freezes it almost always makes a loud buzzing noise from the speakers. Ocassionally it will blue screen but that has only happened a couple times and I'm not sure if that is related to this issue. I thought it might be an issue with overheating because it was running a little hotter than it should while idling (low 50s) so I took the heat sink fan off made sure it was seated properly and applied fresh thermal paste which seemed to fix the issue for awhile and it would sit around 30-40 degrees while idling. Now three days later it is back to idling at 50 degrees and crashing every few hours.

 

I am still suspecting some kind of overheating issue but the only other idea I have is that I have a faulty heat sink fan (it is the one my processor came with). After a week of researching possible solutions I am losing my patience and am running short on time as I am moving overseas in less than a week.

I wouldn't trust the stock heatsink and fan on a 4790K personally.  I would look at replacing this.

 

Also, have a look for as utility called memtest86 and run that to check you haven't got any errors with your Ram.

That was going to be my next move, get a aftermarket heat sink. And Sascha please don't scare me like that, my graphics card is the most expensive thing on this computer lol.

Ah, but I had a psychedelic light display at the same time, so if you're not seeing any pink and blue colors your card is fine.

If its idling at 50 then you add higher temp under load, then you add perhaps a higher ambient... temp could be excessive.

 

Test under full load and monitor with RealTemp.

 

Unstable overclock can cause the same symptoms, but i'm sure you wouldn't be daft enough to OC with the stock cooler.

The 4790K will stock turbo up to some pretty hj numbers using high VCC. I would monitor your CPU temps.

Yes, I have been monitoring with RealTemp and I made sure to turn off the turbo mode in the BIOS which brought it down to 4.0 GHz from 4.4 GHz. I bought and installed a much bigger CPU fan yesterday and installed it, so far my PC is running great idling in the 30s to 40s and survived a stress test without going over 65 we'll just have to see how long that will last. I will report back in a couple of days.

I had this issue a while back and I believe it was ASUS onboard sound drivers conflicting with Nvidia HD sound which I disabled.

The stock CPU coolers is about useless on the 4790k I wish they wouldn't have even sent one with it. I'm considering making a necklace or something out of if anyone one got a better idea lol
