Auto Fail - Pressurization Controller

When at cruising altitude the alarm sets off and I realize that someting has gone wrong with the pressurization controller. Crusing altitude goes back from 34000 feet  to ----- and the same goes for landing altitude - from 50 til -----. Above Auto Fail lits up. How do I keep the pressurization controller working when flying? I thought it had to do with the packs coming back on after engine start but tht´s not the problem.

Well this could be due to two reasons:

1)Automatic mode has failed (or)

2)cabin altitude is not under control

An amber AUTO FAIL light illuminates if any of the following conditions occurs:

• Loss of DC power

• Controller fault

• Outflow valve control fault

• Excessive differential pressure (> 8.75 psi)*

• Excessive rate of cabin pressure change (±2000 sea level feet/minute)*

• High cabin altitude (above 15,800 feet).*

 

here is the checklist you need to follow(from the QRH)

 

Increasing thrust may ensure adequate air supply to control 

cabin altitude.

ENGINE BLEED AIR

switches . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ON (one at a time)

PACK switches . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .AUTO (one at a time)

Allow cabin rate to stabilize before placing second switch 

on.

If the AUTO FAIL light is illuminated or pressurization is not 

under control:

PRESSURIZATION MODE selector . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ALTN

Verify the AUTO FAIL light extinguishes.

If the AUTO FAIL light remains illuminated or the ALTN 

mode cannot maintain cabin pressurization:

PRESSURIZATION MODE selector . . . . . . . . . . . . . MAN

OUTFLOW VALVE switch . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . As needed

Operate the outflow valve to maintain proper cabin 

altitude and cabin rate of change. 

At traffic pattern altitude, position the outflow valve 

to full open.

I previously got this error, when I forget to setup cruising- & landing altitude on the pressurization-panel during Pre-flight... 

 

But - It sounds like, that you HAVE done this - so I dunno...

Thanks a lot - think I got it solved now. I was not aware of the difference between having the packs on or auto so here´s a place to start :-). Otherwisse, I´ll follow the checklist. Once again: Thanks a lot...

You will find reading books on the system,and the FCTM extremely helpful....dont forget the QRH,i would suggest downloading the ones of the internet as they have the click-on-chapter-reach-page feature,which makes it easier to navigate through the document.
