New REX for FS9 installation

Recommended Posts

REX for FS9 seems like a powerful application with the potential for greatly enhancing the simming experience.  Unfortunately,  I am finding the manual to be less-than-helpful in regards to installation.  Nowhere can I find where in the file structure REX should be installed and what settings in FS9 need to be changed so that the FS9 weather engine is disabled.  Over the years I have  consistently found that software companies are much better code writers than they are instruction writers.  This is no exception.  Even their web page is pretty stingy with information.  There are many entries in their Q&A section that list a problem, some exchanges with tech support and then a final entry listing the problem as "resolved", but without any indication of what exactly that resolution might have been.

If any of you have a level of satisfaction with your REX installations, please share some details of your experience.  I am running FS9 very satisfactorily on windows 8.1.

It's been a long time since I installed REX but I don't recall any complications, though that's on Windows 7. As I remember I just used the auto-installer and let it do the work. It will install new texture files in FS9 but will backup the originals and you can revert to them at any time. Once it's installed you will get a menu allowing you to customize the features you want, including weather. It's a very mature and popular product so you shouldn't have any problems from it and you will thoroughly enjoy the enhancements, though Sascha's new Envo V2 may prove even better...

Good luck

Ian

I had no installation issues on Windows 7 x64, either. I loved the textures--much better than the default ones. Never did use the flight-planner or weather engine, though.
