Bought a 4k screen for Prepar3d...

Recommended Posts

I just bought a 4k screen and since i couldnt find anyone using 4k yet for Prepar3d, so i wanted to share.

What do you guys think? No more zooming and using 2d panels etc, always max zoomed out :)

I have one, a 39 inch SEIKI

It behaves more just like a crisp highly focused 1080p

I was hoping for an extended view but that I get more of that type in eyefinity from my 3 DELLS in portrait

When I am in 3840 x 2160 I also run on the side a DELL 24" for the addon UIs and there is little if any performance loss. I do have 4GB VRAM though that is important, you need at least 3 otherwise there will be compromises in performance with an Ultra  even with a 780.

Thats why I bought an ATI R9 290

Hi!

3840x2160 60hz on an ATI R9 290X.

I don't think you will be disappointed with a modern 4k monitor.

After watching that video - I agree.

Sweet !!!!

Do you find that resolution makes things too small than compared to 1920 by 1080 or is just much clearer i worry that it will be to zmall for my eyes, 1920 is fine

it is much sharper but almost the same real estate

or at least i see it that way

What size and brand suffice to say your very happy, i only have a 3 gig 780 gtx wonder if i would suffer any performance loss as i run a second screen for other addins

I often find GPU-Z reporting 3600MB and occasionally 4066MB on my 4G card. That is one Ultra-HD and one DELL 24" run concurrently

So a 3G card even a 780 Ti  would probably have little pauses, a little "excuse me while I rearrange the overflowing mail box of incoming mail"

May just stick with 1920 res if its going to hurt performance moving to a 4k

To be honest I went back to my 1920 x 1200 just now and am getting up to twice the fps , sometimes 200% more in clouds

So there is a price to pay for larger real estate as is everywhere...

Interesting thread, I almost picked up a Sony 55" 4K 120Hz monitor ($2200) tonight to replace my current 3 monitor setup ... having a no Tax sale at Fry's Electronics.

I currently run just one 2560 x 1600 for main display in P3D V2.3 ... but 3840 x 2160 should mean I don't have to run as high an AA ... LG also make a 49" 4K 120Hz for $1500.

Thanks for sharing, would love to get more details on how it's working in P3D

1.  Any issues with motion blur on rapid pans (pixel refresh too slow causes this)?

2.  Any issues with flicker?

3.  How much of an FPS hit did it induce?

Cheers, Rob.

Hey Rob

I currently run a LCD TV at 1920@1080 P3D V2.3 sandy bridge 2600K 16 GIGS Ram GTX780 want to upgrade to a monitor with 2560@1600 like you have just wondering what kind of performance penalty I may have going up to that res, I have a second monitor running at 1650 connected also, cheers

I would not spend 2200 on an ultra

I bought a cheap SEIKI for 700 and it works just fine except it has a low refresh rate

It will reduce fps but the other things you mentioned are not that noticeable to me

Hi Wayne,

1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600 pixels

2560 x 1600 = 4,096,000 pixels

3840 x 2160 = 8,294,400 pixels

As you can see the pixel count is doubled with each increase ... pixel count defines how hard one's GPU is going to have to work.  Where pixel count starts to really load up a GPU is with particle systems and/or alpha ... SGSS AA will also do it, but that loads up any system at just about any resolution.  It doesn't necessarily mean you'll see a 50% drop in FPS per each incremental upgrade ... lots of factors involved.

Sorry, I don't have a definitive answer but on my setup here I saw about a 20% difference in FPS from 1920 x 1080 to 2560 x 1600 ... but again settings, AA, texture sizes, VRAM, the scene will impact differently.

Cheers, Rob.
