Adding a pop up gauge

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm trying to add a VOR gauge to an aircraft (the A2A B17) so that I can fly a radial and see how far I am from the beacon. Is it possible to do this and if so are there any good gauges that I can add that have the required functionality? I don't need the gauge in the VC, but a pop up gauge on something like CTRL-Shift 1 would be good.

Thanks,

Sev

Sure, just use some gauges from a default aircraft in FSX, like the Baron..

A VOR gauge and a DME gauge.

Put them in a new Window in the panel.cfg file.

You pop it up with shift-n where n is the Window number + 1.

Thanks Bert - how exactly do you add the file in? I'm not too sure what I'm doing when editing cfg files..

Will give you an example later today..

In the meantime, try opening the panel.cfg file with Notepad..

Here is something to try..

Example Window08, use shift-9 to pop up

[Window Titles]
....
Window08=VOR DME

....

[Window08]
BACKGROUND_COLOR=0,0,0
size_mm=100,142
window_size= 0.20, 0.40
position=5
visible=0
ident=999
gauge00=Beech_Baron!DME, 0,0,100,40
gauge01=CessnaWAlpha!VOR1_Alpha,      0, 41,100,100

I will gently point out that there is a perfectly friendly and usable forum here at AVSIM specifically for questions about "Panels and Gauges..." :Idea:

All the window slots all the way up to 13 are occupied, If I put it to window14 how will I open the gauge?

Thanks

You can open it via the "Views" tab, but I would re-arrange the existing windows and swap this one to a lower number.

Any luck?

Another way to go is to add a popup Garmin GTN750 GPS.. that will give

you all the information you need, along with a nice moving map..

Hi Bert sorry have been away from the internet a couple of days. Yes all seems to be working fine. I reworked the list so the VOR replaces the default moving map that the aircraft comes with as I'm trying to navigate without the aid of GPS like devices - just a stationary map, a compass and VOR!
