777-200 too low Cruise Speed

Somehow I'm not able to receive a cruise speed above 250-300 KIAS within my flightplan/FMC. At least not by default - what needs to be done? Do I have to put this into the FMC manually?

I'm seeking something around 500 KIAS or so.

Read up on indicated airspeed and true airspeed. Indicated airspeed will be relatively low at altitude due to the thin air. At 500 KIAS, the 777 would probably fall apart:)

Ha, ha, ha...okay then, so I guess then, it's just me mixing everything up here..

So where it's said that her normal cruise speed is 0,83 Mach it is actually meant as 549 TAS and not KIAS?

In addition to whosyourcaddy,  I just wanted to add:

Make sure FSX is set to show indicated airspeed (I think in Aircraft>Realism).  When using VNAV, the aircraft switches from indicated airspeed (IAS) to mach in its target speeds and back the other way when you descend.   Mach speed is more-or-less the same regardless of altitude, while IAS for a given true airspeed (TAS) continues to decline as you ascend.  Also, Mach .84 is @ 490 TAS, not 549, based on usual ND instrument readings during flight (You might get a higher ground speed of course with a tail wind).

Oh yes my FSX is always set to Indicated Airspeed!
