Great Problem with intel processors (I3 vs I7)

Recommended Posts

Hi to all,i have and I3 4360 (3,70GHZ) with 8GB RAM and GTX750OC.My fsx performs not bad at all (i get 30 fps in some addons airports and fluctuating from 24-25 to 30-35 fps sometimes).I have a tweaked bojote´s FSX.cfg

Recentrly i decided to get a brand new I7 (4790 at 3.6GHZ up to 4.00ghz when in turboboost mode). The surprises was after install the new i7 my fsx performs bad,(with the i3 i get better frames). Now with i7 y have 15-18fps.

I tried to tweak affinity mask to 14 and some other values,i tried to disable HT on BIOS and check a lot of parameters but without good results.

Finally i decided to put i3 again and the system goes into 30-35fps range again.

Whats wrong with this?any tweaks i´m loosing?.It´s suppossed i7 4790 3,6ghz performs better than i3 3,70ghz or not?.

And finally other question, with the "good processor" (i3) is normal get sometimes drops in frames? i get 34-35fps in dense airports or in cruise but sometimes drops to 23-24 and quickly goes up to 35fps again....any tweak for this also???.

Thanks in advance i think if i solve those problems my fsx will get rock solid fps.

Alex.

There's really no physical reason for the i3 to outperform the i7, it's far more likely there's a software issue at play here.  You didn't mention deleting your fsx.cfg file.  I would try that next.

But my really question is quicker for FSX an (I7 4790 AT 3,60GHZ) than (I3 4360 AT 3,70GHZ),in FPS terms?,I Know i7 have more cores than i3 but a less slower clock speed (i7 3,6ghz vs i3 3,7ghz) the more clock speed from i3 is better?or an i7 with 4 cores but with less core speed give best results???.....

Depends on the settings.  Scenery textures load quicker with more cores.  You can configure the sim in such a way that it would produce lower FPS on either processor.  FiberFrameTimeFraction and AffinityMask settings are the important pieces here.  All else being equal, the i7 is faster.

Greetings,

With FSX, it is the processor speed that is King, not the cores, 4.0Ghz is much better than 3.6.

Respectfully,

Brian

Understood the I3 4360 3,70GHZ is better than I7 4790 3,60GHZ???

No.

It's a complicated question that you're asking.  If someone gives you a yes or no answer, neither one would always be true.  The general rule is that the i7 will be faster than the i3 if their clockspeed is the same (or close).

Hmmmm.... Maybe I should "upgrade" to an i3 4360 from the 2700K I have now?

Joking aside, this is interesting, if the observations from the OP is correct...

FSX works in mysterious ways.

FSX is by no means a mysterious application. Even though many people here seems to think it's running of fairy dust and witchcraft (no names or threads given) its just a computer program and as such its extremely logical.

The way FSX is programmed it will make very good use of 4 physical cores (OK, 3 cores or more is the actual answer). Therefore a hyper threaded dual core (i3) would never work better than a physical quad core (all else being equal). If you can actually see that the i3 gives you significantly higher performance you're ether having a hardware problem (cooler attached properly?), software problem (cfg file?), or you're simply not comparing apples to apples. Just my 5cents.
