Strange happenings

Recommended Posts

I have been using tileproxy for about the past 2 months and it has been working great. A couple days ago it went from loading the main screen with cascading dots and the x's in the ovals to scrolling the names of yahoo map segments. It takes a long time to scroll them and my FS rarely gets above 39% of the load. I haven't added anything new to my flight sim, so I'm not sure what started this. I have uninstalled all of the tileproxy files and folders so that i got a fresh load, but it's still doing the same thing. Any help would be appreciated.

Just to update, it may be a problem with yahoo maps. I switched my .ini to service example 1 and everything works fine--loads normally and maps are good. Not sure what the issue may be with yahoo, but I don't think it's something in tileproxy.

I agree - when I try and use Yahoo I'm getting http 503 responses, which usually means there's a problem their end. Hope it resolves itself.

I have experienced the same problem.  I Googled "Yahoo Maps" and found that they have shut down web mapping services - see links below:

They suggest "using maps from our partner Nokia"?  Does anybody know how to modify the ProxyUser.ini [service3] Yahoo Maps to make this work??

Just a thought, but Nokia is now Microsoft and Microsoft uses Bing! Will this information assist with your issue?

I Googled the MS/Nokia merger and found this quote - " Here, Nokia's mapping entity, is considered a separate business and isn't included as part of the deal, but Microsoft has agreed to a 10-year licensing agreement. (Additionally, Nokia also retains its Solutions and Networks division, its CTO office and a large number of patents.)"  Here is the link:

It may not come to pass, but it looks like someone could dig into the "Here" mapping service and see if they could replace the Yahoo (Service3) - if it is worth it to anybody?  Here is the Flash Earth link to both mapping services:

A couple of random checks showed me that they both (Bing and Here) have about the same quality/resolution maps...

That's why my Windows 8.1 phone automatically has Bing and Here on it as Apps.
