August 24, 201411 yr I always and only fly in FTX regions. Love them. However, lately I've been wanting to fly a bit more around my own country, the Netherlands. But that one looks like **** by default (using P3D here). I was wondering if there are some guys from the Netherlands here who fly over there using Global + Vector + OpenLC: is it convincing? I've obviously seen some screenshots but I'd like to know what my fellow countrymen think of it all. Do you really have the idea you are flying above the Netherlands, recognizing everything as you go? Or does it only 'feel' like the Netherlands? A screenshot from Amersfoort (coming from the west) or Hilversum (coming from the south) at something like 3500 ft would be very much appreciated. P.S. And no, I don't like NL2000 photoreal: I am only interested in the Orbx-addons.
August 24, 201411 yr Hi Jeroen, Just took two shots from the Hilversum area, one as from above the Loosdrechtse Plassen and one up close. I have mixed feelings; sure it does look good, but does not give me the feeling of really flying over NL. In my opinion, this is due to generic autogen which does not represent NL buildings that well. Otherwise I do love the ORBX products, they really do make the world look that much better. Ultimate realism is really hard to be achieved without photoreal stuff with handplaced autogen. Hope this helps! Best regards, Alexander Rietveld
August 24, 201411 yr Thanks, Alexander! Much appreciated! I do understand your mixed feelings... The textures in the city and the houses on them indeed look nothing like the real thing: understandable of course and as expected, this is LC scenery, but this doesn't look like flying over Hilversum at all imho. Might as well be Germany or any other place. I was hoping for something more. I think this scenery works best for places you don't really know... Out of an airliner at 32000 ft I think it will look quite real but not when doing low and slow VFR.

Well I don't live in the Netherlands, but I have all the scenery software you do with Prepar3D v2.2. as my simulator. I have combined what I think is the best of all worlds; that is my particular place, ...CLICK BELOW "Ride to Stinking Creek", in my signature. What I've done is combined the overall scenery which is UTX /P3D (I have and am going to re-install FTX global), with my specific photo-scenery areas Stinking Creek, Barbourville, KY, embedded on top with my 3-D models on top of that. Let's say that for the sake of argument, the Top layer equals layer 1 1 my 3-D models 2 Photo scenery shot from satellite and embedded on top of layer 3 3 UTX, note that this could coexist with FTX and did previously.... Notice where the photo-scenery which was shot in the fall ...FALL COLORS...stops, with the underlying UTX /P3d scenery, starting again. I was flying in the summertime, its greener, But the point is... The seam between the UTX /P3d scenery and the photo-scenery, match perfectly. Perhaps I will do The right thing and Find summer sattelite photo real scenery for a perfect seasonal match up. 4 stock P3-D scenery and autoGen Now, you might not be a scenery designer, but I know for a fact that the ad-on Instant Scenery (IS3), works really well with P3DV 2.X. The Netherlands is totally flat ...while where I live, it's filled with mountains and valleys.... Visually interesting mesh...lots of lows and highs...So, I have a built in advantage. Adding three dimensional artifacts of buildings, trees, people, animals airports...whatever, would really enhance the Netherlands's naturally flat scenery. Adding photo-scenery underneath...just adds to the realism. Finally, yes, photo-scenery looks crappy at 500 feet AGL, and perfectly flat land… but at 1500 feet up WITH 3-d objects embedded, it starts to look really good.... And yes, it's going to take time & work! You need to resign yourself to the fact that it's going to take effort on your part to get your scenery to look the way you want. But at the end of the day, you will have learned a lot, garnered the pride of creating a unique personal space, and forever enjoy, and perhaps even share the Eye-candy you created. JUST SAYIN....
