North Atlantic Tracks

Recommended Posts

Guest allblack

Evening all. Had a look under Search, but couldn't find a quick answer...I'm rushing this as management is about to dish dinner up!In FS9 the NATS don't appear to show - I get departure and approach intersections on either side of the Atlantic, but I want to emulate a 767 flight I read today at flightsim.(Read it - it's great!)Anyway, am I wasting my time trying to find navaids in FS9 for the NATS, or even across the Atlantic close to the NATS, but aren't the actual NATS?Many thanks. Tim

When using NATS remember in real life there are no VHF, which means you dont talk to a atc person. You use a HF radio which you talk to a radio operator. Also you dont have waypoints, instead you have things like N50W30.Here is an example for Kord to heathrow EGLLKORD 0 0 N41

No need to type in all those waypoints. Remember in the FMC you can type in airways KORD DCT KUBBS J547 CLAUD J94 PMM J547 HASTE J94 DEWIT J547 FNT J94 ECK J546 YOW J553 YMX J568 DICEN J553 YAY NATV NURSI UN550 ERNAN UL18 BASET UL9 KENET STAR EGLL From KORD, go direct to waypoint TVC, then to the J548 airway to YTS then the J480 to YFM and so on until you reach YAY. FRom YAY type in the North west waypoints ie N53050W until you reach RENSO. Takes time but is worth it. IF you are not too familiar with the FMC then the manual has all the information.

yes you can. You may need to enter custom waypoints at geographic locations (which is possible when creating a flightplan but maybe not in the built in flightplanner) but it's certainly possible. All external planners will generate such waypoints for you, and some can use NAT tracks. FSBuild2 will even download the dynamic tracks (NAT tracks change every day or so to use changes in the jetstream).

The reason why you don't have waypoints across the ocean is because NAT's change everyday to reflect the best forcast winds of the day. The intersections on either side of the Atlantic are the entry and exit points. You can get the current NAT tracks here:http://www.natroutes.glideslope.de/This site not only has the daily NAT's, but also has alot of information on how the NAT system works.Hope this helps

Also you can use the program FSBuild V2, to create a flight plan with daily updates of NATS. In fact I am about to go fly right now from KJFK to EGLL with today's routes. FSBuild will insert the NATS right into your flight plan and then build the .rte data for use in your FMC.You can find more at this site: http://www.fsbuild.com/Hope this helpsBob Johnson
