pmdg 747 for fsx release date and price

Recommended Posts

hello.

Was the pmdg 747 for fsx released back in 2008? If that is correct how can it be priced at 55 dollars? No discounts for existing owners of other pmdg products? And is it only compatible with fsx and not prepar3d v2? Then i really cant understand the price if its only compatible with fsx that are on its last legs at least with me. In fact im puzzeled of the high price for old fsx products in general, not only from pmdg. If theres a sale somewhere it usually is very small discounts. 55 dollars :))))

Whether you understand the price or not is irrelevant - it is what it is and PMDG has no history of discounts on existing products.  You might find a cheaper boxed copy on Amazon or at a store like Best Buy (although I expect those copies are long gone)...   I'm curious why you would be interested in a product that is "on its last legs" with you?  Do you just want to complain about the pricing?

You best bet is to wait till the new 747  comes out than you can complain about  the new price :P

Expected to be bashed. Did my questions offend you? then im sry. Thought i was beeing polite. I still only have fsx but buying expensive products only compatible with fsx i dont do anymore. I would get this 747 to use with fsx if i could use it in prepar3d later on and that was part of the questions i asked(which none of you answered). Instead of saying its irrelevant if I (a stupid moron) dont understand the price you could give a sentence or 2 telling me how incredible good this is and well worth the money even if its only flyable in fsx, but hey, dont answer if you cant do it without spewing ###### all over me ;)))

It is not licensed or intended for use in P3D, nor is it compatible with P3D.  If you want to know how good it is all you have to do is read through the forum and download and read the manual available on the PMDG site.  The manual is intended for the FS9 version but there is no major functional difference between that and the FSX version.

When the current version of the PMDG 747 came out, P3D did not even exist yet, so there is no way that P3D compatibility could have been built into the program. Price vs. value is an individual opinion... If you personally believe $55 is too much for an add-on, I can't say you are "wrong", as you are the only one who can decide what you are willing to pay.

I would point out though, that the price HAS been reduced over the years. I don't recall what the 744 originally sold for in 2008, when it was a "new" product, but I'm pretty sure it was quite a bit more than $55.

A new PMDG 747 is in development which will offer improved systems emulation and performance, based on the new core technology used in creating theIr 777 product line. Once the V2 747 is released, THEN I might expect a further price reduction in the original V1 747.

However, even very newest PMDG releases for FSX (like the 777) cannot be used in P3D. PMDG will be releasing P3D versions of their latest products, but they will be priced higher than the FSX versions. There are legal reasons why PMDG will have to do this, relating to the terms of their licenses with Boeing (which gives them the right to produce simulations of Boeing aircraft in the first place), and based on the fact that P3D potentially can be used for training real-world pilots, which FSX cannot.

If you don't think it is worth it, then don't buy it...simples.

I personally find it one of the most complete, bug-free addons I have ever bought.

Thanks for answers but i have a another question. Im aware of the posibility to migrate pmdg 747 from fsx to prepar3d but is that legal? Thought it was a eula to consider with the pmdg products. Think i will wait for v2 if its not legal to port the fsx 747 to prepar3d.

There are endless discussion threads about the usage of products in P3D.  PMDG have stated why they cannot license products for P3D just yet, however negotiations are in full swing to make it happen.   This all goes down to P3D not being an entertainment platform whilst FSX is and the differences in licensing.   In fact, you can look at the sticky's at thet top of the general forum and you will find PMDG's statement and updates there.   The short answer is that it is illegal as the product is not licensed to do so.   In fact, in the newer installers like the NGX and 777, PMDG make it impossible to port as they specifically don't want you to and they make it clear!

As a 747 addict and long time user of the current 747, if you do get it, you would not be disappointed!   Sure, the graphics look a little dated, but the aircraft systems are all there, all working as it should.   The only other 747 that come close is the PSX one and that costs 400 dollars, but that is a stand alone product and does not operate within FSX or P3D.   It really is an amazing product.   I don't know if you own any of the other PMDG products, but trust me - PMDG doesn't need to have sales to sell their products.   Use one of them and you will understand :-).

Kind regards
