Idle process

can you shut this down in windows, and will it make Fs9 smoother when I do ctrl, alt, delete the only thing I see using cpu is FS9 and idle process, I don,t run my computer with the Internet. the reason I ask, is I have a 3.2 p4 9800 PRO 256mb, 1500mb of ram and setting on medium I still get stutters

I think its essential. Anyway it only runs when there is no other CPU activity.

yep its just the way windows works. if you get stutters try downloading ad-aware or another spyware program and see if that helps.

thanks for the help, I run system mechanic 5, diskkeeper 8.0 and spybot and addaware every day And they tell me my system is running fine, is there somthing eles I could get that would do a better job of scanning my computer. Or maybe it just me my Fps stay's where I put them, it just them little freezes and jerks that bug me

Dave, Ken Salter's program FS AutoStart will give you the option to shut down idle task. Do a search on Ken Salter in the file library. BTW he is also the moderator of this forum.Bob

Thank I'll try FS auto start, should I have no stutter with my system or is there somthing I need to change hardware wise, thanks again for the help

Idle Process isn't a true process. All it does is calculate the percent of available CPU cycles. The higher the value the better (more CPU available for applications to use). It can't be stopped.Doug

no, not possible to shut idle process down in win xp - it's part of normal operation
