Upgrading my Video Card

I run FSX on my Win 7 x64 system which has an Intel I7-3770 (not OC) at 3.4 gh on an ASUS P8X77-V Deluxe MB.  I have 8mb of system memory.  My current video card is a GeForce GTX 560-Ti with 1 mb of graphics memory.

 

Given the limitations of FSX would a GTX-770 or 780 with either 2mb or 4mb of memory improve my system with the heavy load of scenery like FTX  and a/c like the PMDG-777?

 

Would my VAS usage benefit from the new card?

I have just bought and fitted an NVidia GTX780, haven't tried FSX yet, but for me it made a massive difference in P3D. I was using and NV GTX650 before.

VAS usage is usually related to the reserved applications space and does not directly impact the video memory on your graphics card.

 

 

For what it's worth, the best way to save VAS is not to load up a lot of photo real scenery if you have any installed especially if you're not overflying that area. Others here on the forum and myself have found the Scenery Config Editor tool a nice utility to be able to select which sceneries you want loaded up for the beginning of any given flight your are doing. This will help reduce the VAS usage.More info can be found on the tool is found here:-

Re GPU cards,

I am in a similar position having the same graphics card as you and am contemplating buying a new GTX 970. This is several steps up from the 560Ti in terms of graphics power yet has the latest NVidia video engine and features and consumes just a little more power than the 560Ti but much lower than the GTX 770 and 780 you mentioned above. It's relatively new (a few weeks old) but expect prices to come down but from what I have read it's a better deal price wise  than the GTX 770.

Remember though, FSX is very CPU intensive  but I believe the newer cards should run FSS a little smoother.

Graphics memory will help with performance of HD textures, so if you have any texture packs or scenery in HD, it would most definitely make a difference.
