How do you add waypoints into the GPS database?

Recommended Posts

Guest B737_200_Pilot

Trying to fly a gps approach and the waypoints aren't in the GPS, looking for a way to get 'em in there, or even better a way to get the trusty old ACS gps going in FS9.Thanks.

Well, if you know ahead of time you want to fly that approach, you can add it in the FS flight planner.

What's written in the link below about procedures is also valid for single waypoints. Off course this method causes much more workload, than simply imputting waypoints into the default flightplanner flight by flight. But with this method you will save the new waypoints, SIDs, STARs etc. permanently into the database.http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=194171&page=Wolfgang

Acs-gps(fs2002) works pretty good in Fs9. Instructions from the man himself (Alain Capt.):Last 2.0 version of ACS-GPS (ACSGPS20.zip) is fully compatible with FS2004.You just must be careful how you install it:If you want to use the included "custom setup" program you can. In this case you should note that you must avoid to select the option which install demo of ACSGPS for the 737-400 aircraft. The trick to install is:When you will have launched the setup program, click on the button with a question mark which is on the line for the version FS2002. You will get a standard file requester. With this requester, seek the root directory where is installed your FS2004 and click OK button. Attention !!! with this requester do not select any file into file list, nor modify the default name set in the filename field before to click OK, or you will get an error. Now you are ready to install FS2002 version into FS2004.File can be found on my site www.acsoft.chRegards,Alain CaptI'm pretty sur the guage can then just be copied from the acs-gps installed aircraft panel.cfg to whatever aircraft you want (please post again if you need any more help).I also use additional waypoints added to the fs9 database using a file fsnavfix.zip which I seem to have in something called gpsfix2.zip (an acs-gps database upgrade):http://library.avsim.net/search.php?Search...=root&Go=SearchThey are just bgl files which you can add like any other scenery layer. I end up with lots of duplicated waypoint but nothing real bad seems to happen & I gain lots of others / transoceanic points etc.Hope this helpsP.

Waypoints are written using XML and then compiled to a bgl file using MSN's BGLComp compiler. This is the only true method of maintaining compatibility with the lower root files in the APnnnnnnn.bgl.However, just adding the waypoints does not give you a full GPS approach. The GPS approach must be overlayed to an exsisting approach or written using the new waypoints so any user aircraft can lock to (Load/Activate) and read the full approach data with GPS receivers. There are utilities that will add waypoints into the FS9 database. Some of these utilities are backward compatible and do not use current XML type data schemes. If you duplicate waypoint names and corridnates in FS9 for approach data (using utilities) this can nullify exsisting default FS9 precision approaches based on WAYPOINT/TERMINAL_WAYPOINT elements because of the many different default files FS9 reads these waypoints from.A good place to start is to read the BGLComp SDK Docs written by MSN.
