Intel i7 4770K v.s. i7 4790K

Accept for the pricing, what are the differences between the processors when it comes to FSX. I would like to make FSX movies and have good FPS while online. Would I be better off with hard-core add-ons like PMDG and Carenado with a i7 4790K, or would a i9 4770K be good? I'm trying to save as much money as possible. But if it would be significant, then I wouldn't mind paying the difference.

Stock frequency (3.5 vs 4.0GHz) and thermal interface.

If you overclock and want to save money, the I5 4690K is your best bet.

No. I have one, I will never look back. Of course till something new and shiney comes out.

I have the 4790k running at stock speeds.

 

When at default Heathrow airport in stormy weather in the PMDG 737 NGX using DX10, my fps is rock solid at 30.

 

I have made a handful of modifications to the .cfg file and tweaked some settings with nVidia Inspector, but overall I am delighted with how it is performing! The GTX 780 in the background probably helps too though

Update-

Today I went to a local computer shop and asked them questions, and I am set with an Asus z-97 motherboard, but they REALLY recommended me to upgrade my graphics card. *I currently have an NVidia 650* They said that it was the reason why I cant get good frames, but I know FSX better than them and it is my sh*tty processor. They did recommend that I look for an i5 processor, because apparently the only thing special with i7 is hyper threading.

 

Should I stick to my plan of I7 4770K, or is there an i5 that will have the same performance?

Get the 4770K ... apart from anything else its memory management is superior.  A mild overclock to 4.0- 4.2 will not cause temps to rise too much or bring on the need to adjust volts (whatever you do don't run hyper threading.) You will be very happy with its performance at stock however.  If,  in the future you decide to upgrade your graphics card go with a GTX970, nothing less.

I have to disagree with the i7 memory managing being superior. It's not. The guy at your computer store is right and the only thing about the I7 is HT. L3 cache (8 vs 6MB) is a non factor

Is there an i5 processor that is good to provide high FPS in FSX *PMDG 737 @ scenery*? It seems like most people have i7 and are doing great. I mind as well follow the pack.

Interesting about the cache. I went for an i7 partially because of the benefits for FSX from the guides that are out there.

Not tried both, no. But benchmarks show it makes no difference. Check FSMark11

Agreed.  Save $100 and go with the 4690k.
