Ultimate Traffic 2, MyTraffic 2013 etc.

Recommended Posts

I have Ultimate Traffic 2 and don't find it hugely ultimate, the airline paints are very out of date as are the schedules, I'm wondering if anyone has experience of MyTraffic 2013 from Aerosoft and can tell me if it's any better.

An AI package where you don't have to put hours of work in would be really good. Too much to ask for 40 Euros?

Thanks

Ultimate Traffic 2 is an excellent foundation for a realistic AI environment, but I agree that it requires a lot of work to get it up to the point where airports are as busy as they should be. I only fly around the UK, but it has still taken me a considerable amount of time to achieve that. I wouldn't want to have to do it all over again, that's for sure!

What one is better on frame rate?

From what I have read on the forums, it appears that this varies from setup to setup. I have had extreme performance issues with one of the packages, but not with the other one, while others have reported the exact opposite.

Have you ever thought about adding new airlines and AI models in UT2, Greg? It's actually quite enjoyable when you learn how to do it, although I wouldn't try to take on too much at once. If you want to add Fedex to UT2, you can do so. I only fly around the UK and Ireland, but I have added those Fedex schedules that visit these shores. There is an excellent tutorial by Norman Dean available from the UK2000 website. That is how I learned to do it....

Scroll down the list to where it says "AI Flight Plans for FS2004". Download the "Guide to using the UT2 PowerPack to insert schedules and change liveries". The instructions are for FSX and FS2004 (and P3D for that matter).

I'm a user of My Traffic X but I've never used UT2 so I can't really give a comparison. However My Traffic X seems to be what your looking for in terms of installing the software and then having your airports populate without having to mess around with much. The amount of air traffic is dependent on the AI % built into FSX. I find that anywhere from 30-40% yields the best amount of AI Aircraft for your FPS.

If you are finding MTX to be framerate heavy there are two options, one is built into MTX which is a low resolution option for your AI Traffic. The other option is this brilliant FREE tool developed by AVSIM member dukeav http://forum.avsim.net/topic/451383-traffic-optimizer-for-fsxp3d/

I can say that it does work. Start the program after you start FSX and let it do it's thing. Most people are seeing on average a 10 FPS gain by the program eliminating AI Traffic out of your vicinity.

Now if you really wanted to get picky about schedules with My Traffic X as I think they are around a year old as of right now, you can purchase a 6 month subscription to My Traffic Live to go along with your My Traffic X which will load actual real world real time flights into FSX via AirNav Systems. This I suppose would be a pro over UT2 as it seems UT2 is no longer going to be updated.

Is it done yet? When will it be released? Will it be freeware or payware? How much will it cost? Any updates on the progress? Will it work for Xbox? Can I be a beta tester? How's the performance in VR?

I have Ultimate Traffic 2 and generally speaking, I do like it.  It is very adjustable when it comes to the volume of traffic generated, the distance at which AI aircraft become visible, and it seems to have a relatively mild impact on frame rates.  Commercial airline traffic in UT2 does not fly directly from point A to point B, it follows airways, so it can be neat to see a contrail and then see the aircraft gently turning at a waypoint.  What is bad about UT2 is that development seems to have come to a halt.  You can change liveries and even add new airlines and new schedules, but that does take a bit of work.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

I agree, UT2+ Ai Controller (http://forum.avsim.net/topic/447974-ai-controller-sid-jet-route-star-and-final-approach-beta/)

will give you a very good AI-experience.  AI aircrafts that flies takeoff-> SIDs->airways-STAR-Approach-landing rather

then just take-off->direct->landing like in MTX.

Another disadvantage with UT2 is that there is no AI aircraft over larger oceans like the atlantic or the pacific.

I do have UT2 and I'm not a specialist when it comes to messing with FSX. But from my old WOAI days, I do know how to install liveries for existing aircraft. Also the UT2 interface isn't too bad for finding your way around and so my airports are quite nicely populated with GermanWings aircraft in the new paint scheme (which wasn't included in UT2 when I bought it). So if you do know some basics, it's quite easy too add whatever airline/paint/aircraft you'd like to see.

When it comes to performance, FSX only briefly stutters when lots of UT2 planes have to be loaded at once (at the beginning of each flight for instance or when approaching an airport), but that's to be expected. Once they're loaded, everything's smooth (my settings: GA at 10%, Commercial traffic at 70%)

What I do find annoying about UT2 though, is that you have to pay (7$) to get more recent schedules, which aren't even that recent (Summer/Fall 2013).

I would guess that I have added 50-60 new airline schedules into UT2 (and this is only for airlines that visit the UK (plus Dublin and Cork in Ireland), and disabled any default UT2 versions in the UT2_Weekly_Official database file. However, I am not quite as fussy about having the very latest schedules for absolutely everything. I just update and add new schedules as and when I feel the need to do so, and also delete any airlines that vanish from the scene (sadly, that will include the Virgin Little Red A320s) :(

Why don't you consider either ICE Traffic 5.0.1? Very up to date, free and easy fps.

Because it is pirated freeware.
