API.DLL Crash after installing a few add-ons

Hello.

 

My FSX was running fine before installing a few add-ons like MyTrafficX and UTX Europe, and also the PMDG 777.

 

After that I load my flight, and just when it displays the VC it crashes.

 

I have FSUIPC installed, and in it's logs it doesn't warn me about OOM error's.

After that I load my flight, and just when it displays the VC it crashes.

The api.dll faulting module usually indicates FSX is running out of memory but it does not necessarily mean you ARE running out of memory. It could be a bad configuration or installation of a product. The API (application program interface), "is a set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software applications. The API specifies how software components should interact and are used when programming graphical user interface (GUI) components." That's a quote from the Internet. In your case, I would say you have addons that are not interacting properly with FSX's API.dll or FSX.

 

The fact that your sim crashes exactly after you load your flight and the VC is displayed. Seems to me that's caused by the aircraft that you just loaded or some component of that product. What happens if you load another aircraft, say a default aircraft?

 

In all crashes, you have to conduct the investigation because we cannot see what you have loaded, your fsx configuration, what modules are loaded, what scenery is loaded, and what aircraft is loaded. This is why I suggest you bring FSX back to the default to track down the cause of your crashes. Here's how to bring it back to the default:

  • Move the fsx.cfg, dll.xml and exe.xml to a temporary folder or rename them all. I like moving them as that provides good backups in case you want to use them again.
  • Disable all addon scenery in the Scenery.cfg via the Scenery Library.
Now, restart FSX and let the config rebuild.  No dll.xml or exe.xml will be rebuilt.  Just the fsx.cfg.  Load a default aircraft.  No crash?  It is one of the three things you did above then that is the problem (well it could be the addon aircraft like the PMDG777 if that's what you are loading and it crashes).  You won't be able to load that until the dll.xml is loaded.  So load that next and see if the PMDG777 will not load to the VC.  No?  Reinstall the PMDG777 or take a look at the dll.xml and just load the PMDG modules.  Everything else, look for the line Disable False Disable and change it to Disable True Disable.  Now try the PMDG777 with only the PMDG modules loaded.  If it still crashes, then most likely it is the PMDG installation.

Thanks for your help, although it actually seemed to resolve it self somehow.

 

Although I am facing a new CTD now, with the acontain.DLL.

It happends when i try and load the 777, not any other aircraft's.

The faulting module is related to AI aircraft and it removes AI aircraft around your aircraft as you are flying. Make sure you have the latest version of FSUIPC installed as it somehow works with this module. Reduce your AI settings - not above 40%. What AI program is installed? Is the default AI program still running? If you are still having problems, I would suggest uninstalling any addon AI program (none indicated in your profile). Reduce AI settings if appropriate. Ships and boats are also controlled by the acontain.dll so make sure those settings are not too high. Individuals who have had crashes as a result of this module have been advised to completely uninstall FSX, run a freeware system cleaner such as CCleaner, then temporarily disable any anti-virus program and disable UAC, then reinstall. Fun stuff!
