Era Alaska service continues ... After an overnight stay the weather improved, and I'm flying from Holy Cross to Port Lions on Kodiak Island.

 

 

Start on rwy 19

 

 

The Yukon river - quite impressive

 

 

In the foreground some hills, at the horizon the snow-covered mountains of Wood-Tikchik State Park

Even more snow - actually: ice. It is the Hallo glacier. This is really its name because the nearby bay is called ... Hallo Bay

 

 

We leave the Alaskan mainland ...

 

 

... towards Kodiak Island

Left in front of the cowling we see some streets of Port Lions

How should I land there??? No straight approach, short runway ...

 

 

 

But with the appropriate routine no big problem. Anyway ... In Alaska you don't need big terminal buildings for passenger handling, a container is sufficient.

 

 

To the left the landing stage for boats and above the little village Port Lions. I have no idea why they called it Port Lions - in Alaska? Population is 256 (census 2000).

Great shots Uwe, I especially like the reflections in the water :smile:

 

It also looks like nearby Canada has been getting large amounts of data imported into OSM recently, so shortly we should be able to generate nice and accurate scenery for it (As well as HD Mesh v3, *drool*)

Ok, as I need to earn more money for my world tour, I am still flying for Era Alaska ...

 

... from Port Lions to Fire Island (with a stopover at Larsen Bay)

Looks almost like in the Norwegian Fjords

 

 

To the left you can see a small grey strip - this is Larsen Bay

 

 

 

The freight I have to transport has not yet arrived, and I have to park the plane ...

After around 1h of waiting, I am starting again direction Northeast

Wow, are you using any other add on scenery ? that boat rocks. I am getting myself a faster laptop.

With the Larsen Bay scenery. For this scenery I recommend to turn "runway follows contours" off.

BTW - for bush pilots I found a very interesting book: Seaplanes along the Inside Passage. A long time bush pilot from Alaska writes very enthralling about his experience with passangers and the nature (especially the weather).
