New Nvidia driver 344.48 - WHQL

Recommended Posts

Still no support for mobile/laptop cards enabling DSR?

Very annoying that it first supported 970/80M cards, and now only desktop cards, including fermi and Kepler..

Would be great if nvidia (or a very kind modded...?) could enable DSR on the mobile versions of these cards..

Here is the link to the mobile version. This version was available prior to the desktop version.  http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/78877

Hope this helps.

to me with a native 2560x1440  it gave to much fps reduction in respect to quality. With this native resolution I am just using in game settings for fsaa etc.

Gives the best fps / quality.

Installed the driver. DSR gave me odd results. Too fuzzy or too jaggie, odd moving bloom, lower performance. Turned it off and won't use it. P3D looks better on my PC with regular ingame AA. Dd a flight I also did yesterday to (somehow) compare performance. No gain, no loss. Just another new driver I could do without... ^_^

You don't need DSR, use the normal downsampling described here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=509076

I also had a big FPS hit with DSR and no FPS hit with downsampling. And you don't need to change you desktop resolution if you just use it in full screen mode. After testing both i found this is much better.

Cheers.

before I dl the new driver to implement the DSR, can anyone tell me what resolution to set my monitor to get the best result. Currently I have it set at 1920x x1200. What can I realistically set it to. I have a 660ti ready superclocked and 18g Ram with an I5 3570k?  many thanks,

I have the exact native res as you.  Just set your DSR to 2.0 and smoothness to default 33% and you are VERY good to go...you will be amazed...  In P3D or FSX, etc...you will see under screen resolutions, the new settings. You can even click of 1.5 times for good measure and have that as well inside the sim to choose from.

Have fun....

I really don't get it how you can look at 33% smoothness. It just hurts my eyes. I feel like in glasses with overcorrection lol.

Do you mean that all I need to do is install the new driver and then set DSR to 2 x? as I thought I needed to create a custom resolution in NVidia control panel and then apply it in P3D?. is there an idiots guide for someone who is not as savvy as the rest? many thanks.

my native resolution is 1900x1200 btw.

Just set DSR in GLOBAL SETTINGS to 2.0...and then press APPLY...you will then see that you now have a custom higher res setting than you had before this driver set.  Inside the sims...you now will also have that res available to you. Click on that...press OK...and then you will see magic happen...especially if you have ORBX candy.

Well..I'm hooked on DSR 2.0 and 33%. I have never seen ORBX candy look so life-like...ever before this.  ":A new graphics card?!!?  I don't need no stinkin' new graphics card"....  ...said with my best hillbilly accent...

For those that like to read every other post, it might be useful to point out that the DSR settings do NOT work properly with multiple monitors UNLESS you set your desktop resolution to the same as the DSR resolution. Otherwise you must check the black out screen box in P3D which won't allow third party programs to be displayed on the second monitor.

I am assuming that you can still drag pop up windows (GPS) without issue.

Yes I agree the world looks somehow more realistic and eye candy. But still... eye devastator :D This is my main reason I gave DSR up. With x1.2 and smooth 23% it was still too blurry for me to have relaxing flying time.

WARNING: to anyone using a 4K monitor via HDMI 1.4 (and has experimented with DSR) ... nVidia now default the Digital Color format to YCbCr444 rather than RGB (at least that's what happened with my driver install and testing, your mileage may vary).  Typically for computer 3D applications you will want to use RGB not YCbCr444 ... YCbCr444 is typically used for component devices (blu-ray players, etc.).

However, if you feel P3D is too dark, you may want to experiment with YCbCr444.

Note: you WILL need to calibrate your monitor for each format used - RGB will have different calibrations than YCbCr444.  I'm guessing nVidia did this as part of their goal to get 60Hz running at 4K via HDMI v1.4??

Cheers, Rob.

Yeah, I'm guessing the nVidia drivers saw my supported resolution over HDMI 1.4 and assumed I'd be running YCbCr444.

The hint was when P3D tried to operate at 4096 x 2160 rather than 3840 x 2160 ... anyway, just letting others know.  Heck some folks may even want to try YCbCr444 ... it was an "aaah" moment for me.  Personally I prefer RGB.

Cheers, Rob.

Just gave it a try. Running a 680 card with P3D 2.4 and Orbx Global (fully updated). Just flying the F-22 around Chicago.

Steps taken:

My native resolution is 1900x1200 (I have 4 monitors)

I set Nvidia control panel (global) DSR setting to 2x (and later tried 3x and 4x) all at 33% smoothness.

I set my desktop resolution to the new higher setting.

I started P3D and reset the resolution to the higher setting and blacked-out the other monitors.

After multiple test flights, I have to be honest: I see absolutely no difference, whatsoever. Everything looks identical.

The only thing I do like, which is an added benefit, is if I just use my native resolution and set to 33% smoothness, I get better FPS and it really is smooth... no stutters. Feels like its running at 60 FPS.

"WOW...am I ever blown away at what you are stating.. jeez....."....

What is now rendered on my 1920x1200 screen (native) and boosted with DSR at 2X/33% is nothing that I have ever seen....cliffs...that look as though they are 3D, suburbs, with detail so clear...even at 2,800 feet, I can spot the different types of pools....rectangular, kidney, oval....all in the back yards...and the list goes on...highways...that looks so darn real...and for ONCE...the traffic looks the same...on and on....too many details to describe of pre-DSR and post-DSR.   You say you can not see any difference?   Wow.....  The default water textures (rolling swells)....waves....MAN...waves that now look like they are animated to the mind...on and on the list goes...  I no longer am running P3D v2.4...I think at what was..and now what is...is that it is P3D v2.4 -Deluxe Edition...

Dang nVidia...you are MY HEROES!
