25OCT14 - First Glance at PMDG 777-200 for Prepar3D

Featured Replies

Having said that, does anyone here know just how inferior the Captain Sim 777 is? I don't care about failures. So, taking that away, is normal day to day operations pretty good?

CS777 is not inferior - it is very good now - I will say this the lighting inside and out is not up to pmdg standards

How do you folks grapple w/ how PMDG big birds will be performing in P3D V2.x?   My sense, coming from how QW757 performs, it will be dicey at best w/ something like PMDG 777 or NGX.   QW757 gets along 'ok', but TO out of a dense metro area and performance can weaken pretty significantly even w/ QW757.

Rich, how does CS777 perform now?

Performs good - set fps to unlimited - gets about 35 to 40 in heavy clouds - no blurries or stutters - feels heavy but being a big bird guess thats what it should feel like - check out Robs videos it will give you a good idea how it is - and it does follow a flight plan now

Wow, a fairly stunning statement by Robert back there. I have been actively converting myself to P3D over the past few months and have just got it to the stage (scenery and all) where all that's missing are PMDG planes. Am feeling hugely deflated right now.....

What's the issue w/ regard to licensing PMDG for P3D?  Is it that PMDG has significant commercial aspirations for their products I guess?  It seems they are the only folks w/ this level of caution or whatever it is for what amounts to primarily an entertainment product.  As accurate as PMDG stuff may be it's hard to see how they will ever have substantial value for training outside of the domain of something like Level D simulators.  How many 777 pilots need to have PMDG's 777 in order to become certified to fly the real deal?  12 per year?  100?  Contrast this with the number of hobbyists who use it for entertainment primarily and it seems like much ado about very little.  But I don't really know quite clearly, and so I pose the question...

Probably best we leave it up to PMDG and their lawyers to avoid fueling any fires.

Wow, this went fast...

My 2 cts? I think PMDG can hardly blame anyone for trying to run their software in a P3D environment, legal or otherwise. In my opinion this is actually a compliment to both PMDG (for building excellent add-on planes) and LM (for keeping FSX alive, and actually improving it). We are seeing the future being created here...

This whole discussion will become moot once PMDG starts releasing P3D products. Until that day I keep using FSX, with the added bonus that the tension of possible CTD's at random moments creates so much excitement :-(

Martijn

Martijn,

Not looking to start arguments, but this is like saying we can discover that we did not set the take off flaps as we jumped the taxi/before take off checklist to get ahead of the game.   Sure, we may discover it in time and prevent disaster by dumping it as we are in the take off run, but that is not the proper procedure and can lead to disaster.

If you look at the ancient old threads on this issue, PMDG actually built their installers in such a manner that they could not be migrated to P3D at all, because that was the strong stance that not only LM but also PMDG had taken on this issue, and low and behold, people were furious and complained when the 777 could not be migrated at all, after they were EXPRESSLY told by PMDG that they should not even attempt it, it is in breach of the EULA and they would not stand for it.   They made in clear in no uncertain terms that they would not have this behaviour from the users, to prevent future problems.   Now after all the blood, sweat and tears, after all the hard work, unnecessary problems due to the fact that people just cannot keep to what they are being told they MUST NOT DO!

Now to get back to my analogy above - what on earth does that have to do with this?   Simple really - the rules, like the checklists, are there for a reason.   You may not like them and you may not understand them, but if you don't follow them, you can end up causing harm to lots of other people.   True, no-one died here like if you would forget to set take off flaps, but a lot of damage seems to have been done because of those who cannot obey the rules.

I am a serious sport shooter and I live in South Africa.   Now I have always admired the US gun laws because you can walk into a shop and buy a lovely old battle rifle like the FN-FAL, which is my heart's desire.   Sure there are some restrictions here and there which I know of, but here in South Africa, if I want it, I have to go through a firearms dealer, write a test about the Firearms Control Act, then write another exam on operating a rifle in that class, do a practical shooting test, and after all that, I have to apply through the SA Police Services for a competency through them for that rifle class.   This takes about three to four months.   If you are lucky and they don't give you the incorrect competency which is what they did to me.   So I started in April, I still don't have it and might have the correct competency by March 2015.   In the meantime, I cannot belong to the local combat rifle club, which is a problem.   I can take part in competitions as an individual, but I need to take part as member of the club in the right type of competitions for a year or so before I get my dedicated sport shooting status.   Only after all this crap, I qualify to buy a semi-automatic rifle like the FAL.   The worst part is the only thing I ever shoot is the target at the range!   And then to apply for a license.   Oh brother...   You have to write a motivation including why do I want the type of caliber etc.   I think by now you get the picture of how ludicrous the whole process is in my country!

Do I like it?   NO SIR!   I think it is total overkill and totally ridiculous.   But does this now mean that I can illegally obtain a firearm and shoot with it?   NO!   I specialise in criminal defense work as an attorney and illegal possession of firearms form a very large portion of my case work.   It is punished by years in prison if you violate the rules.   Even worse, the heart breaking part is that the legal gun owners are being over regulated whilst no idiot in his right mind would commit a crime with a licensed firearm for very obvious reasons!

BUT...

I keep to to the rules because I cannot change them and  I obey the laws of the land whether I agree with them or not.   This is just the way that the world works.

Kind regards  :Peace:

If you sell a license for FSX, and a license for Prepar3d in a separate terms of acceptance and if you use the license you bought for one simulator in the other you are breaking the law. That I could understand.

What I could not understand is why the fact that people are breaking the law could break the development of your product for the other simulator.

Is that cleared for everyone.

See you next year.

Regulations of firearms and licensing issues for computer airplane games are in entirely separate UNIVERSES. I understand what you're saying I guess, but the metaphor is poor.

The licensing thing is pretty clear as RSR has mentioned in his earlier post, people's opinions and metaphorical references notwithstanding.

I know, and I agree with you and RSR that running PMDG aircraft in P3D is a breach of EULA. However, I think that comparing someone loading up the T7 in P3D with someone illegally buying a gun then going around shooting it is ridiculous at best.

I didn't quote your post for a reason - I was speaking in a generic sense to everyone engaging in a debate about it. The topic isn't up for debate.

The point I am making is that rules are rules, forget about WHAT they govern.   That is just an example.   What it shows is that whether you think the rules are overkill, whether you agree with them or not, that makes no difference.   You are to follow them nonetheless and if you don't there are consequences.   That is the point.   Besides it is not a metaphor, it is simply, as I said, an example of a rule/set of rules.

Alright- I thought your post was directed at me. My apologies. But I do have a question. What were to happen if tomorrow I were to buy P3D, the, buy the T7  and figure out a way to install it into the sim? It's not going to happen because frankly I don't have the money, but what if? I'm not asking to argue or to try to prove a point or whatever, I am legitimately curious. If this is outlined elsewhere please let me know where so that I can understand exactly what the consequences are of doing this.

By the time you have saved for the t7  it will be available  for download legally for p3d :P
