Hi Good People,

 

Edward and I had a little digression today - Edward came across a great looking theme which we both thought would be something interesting to do and share with the simming community.

 

The U.S. Navy Douglas R4DS - Ready 4 Duty - with a bit of nose art for this girl..... - yep another one outside the Ford Project Era range - but an interesting one to do and share

 

 

The livery is now available on at http://www.ford-tri-motor.net - click on the Other Aircraft button and navigate to the DC3 Stuff.

D-Day paint?

Hi Mate, - I see that your still on you D-Day band wagon :rolleyes:

 

Your welcome to commission the development of a D-Day repaint and then we would share it with the simming community.  

 

Something  a lot of people do not quiet get the gist of is that Edward commissions me to create the majority of the repaints and scenery that are on the Ford Site - has done so for many years - and then graciously shares those results FREELY with the community.    Therefore Edward is the controlling factor on what is done and not done for the Ford Project.

 

I do all of the web work, forum work and site work for FREE and throw in the occassional FREE texture and scenery.   Overall I spend anywhere from 20 to 60 hours a week on the Ford Project.

 

So please bear in mind when your next pushing your ideas about what we should do next that it will cost us in time, effort and money.  Though it is a FREE to simmers project all of it is costing Edward money for that time and effort. That makes it Edward's Choice on what gets done.

 

So, again, if you want a D-Day livery - commission one - and we will share it with the simming community for FREE for the Ford Project Site. :rolleyes:

For Gwillmot, thanks for your flippant reply - guess you do not have the inclination to follow through to actually pay for the creation of something you persist in asking for and no doubt expect for FREE.  So ingnoble of you to not want to fund and share a livery that you so adamantly push to be created.  :(

I am once again chagrined.  I was very  disappointed to hear that you are simply in it for the money. But ..... that is not my main issue.

 

As for your comment about me "Pushing" this model to be created ..... that is not the case.  If you remember, on another website, you refused to paint models that extended past the period of the 1930's ..... a period when men were men and flying was flying.  You may also recall that ANOTHER person requested this D-Day paint job on the DC-3 (C-47).  You may also recall that you "advertised" a paint that you "tinkered" with but was not going to release to the public since it violated your "1930's" rule.  It was subsequently released.

 

Now I see that you have released a paint depicting a U.S. Navy R4D.  Very interesting:

 

"The first two R4Ds used by the Navy were the two R4D-2s. In December 1941, these two aircraft were at Naval Air Station (NAS) Anacostia, District of Columbia and NAS Pensacola, Florida. The primary user of the R4Ds in the USN was the Naval Air Transport Service (NATS). NATS was established on 12 December 1941 under the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) to provide rapid air delivery of critical equipment, spare parts, and specialist personnel to naval activities and fleet forces all over the world. To accomplish its mission, NATS was authorized to establish three wings, the Pacific, West Coast and Atlantic Wings. Like the USAAF's Air Transport Command (ATC), NATS flew the longer supply routes to deliver needed material to the war zones. On the return trips, they frequently flew wounded back to hospitals. NATS also operated with the ATC in flying between India and China over the "Hump" and operated a route between India and the U.S. carrying important raw materials."

 

I could care less about a D-Day paint as I rarely fly the DC-3, C-47 or any other vintage aircraft.  I really don't personally care if you release or don't release any paints of any era.  I DO care about you publicly saying one thing on a forum, and then turning around and doing another.  Hey, it's your call .... you are free to do as you wish, but don't jump on someone for calling out YOUR inconsistencies.

 

I will now not comment on your future releases as I think the point is now made and sufficiently clarified.

Good retort and valid comments in some areas - at least not a flippant response. 

 

Yes I get some money from Edward for the repaints and the scenery development - he pays me all of $15Aust per hour for that development on the tasks that he sets me for the Ford Project.  I contribute about 20% of all liveries for FREE and even greater percentages for the Scenery developement for FREE.  On top of that I provided 100% of the web work, artwork and management for FREE. 

 

Edward is the overall project manager and has control on what we publish via or on behalf of the Ford Site as it is his project.  I contribute time, 16 years of experience, and a great deal of hard earned skills across a range of FS artwork skills - not only repainting but also in scenery creation and 3D model creation and artwork for such scenery.

 

In a nutshell we basically share the load of the overall project and Edward pays me a small fee for about 50% of the work done. 

 

With the size of the projects growth over the last 3 years this has been a substantial contribution by Edward and gifted for FREE to the simming community, But I too have contributed a substantial portion of the Project for FREE.

 

Edward's financial support has been fundamental to ensure that I continue to provide not only the Ford Project stuff - but to keep gjsmith.net - Mike Stone's, Warwick Carter's,  and Milton Shupe's and others historical creations alive and functioning for many years - also all FREE to the community.

 

So don't say I am "in this for the money" - never have been and never will be - but I do occassionally charge people for "personal requests" every now and again when it is something that they want for their own use or to be distrubuted  as funded by them.

 

"Inconsistencies" - yes - the Ford Project is specifically focussed on the era up to the late 1930's - yes - I did do some DC3's outside of that era - the first was just a fun tinker that I shared with Edward first and he wanted me to "share" it under the Ford Project Banner, his call - then he recommended a couple more "just for fun" liveries to be developed outside the era and chose to share those as well for FREE to the community.

 

Therefore, guilty as charged on that count.

 

But that is part of the overall fun of simming - sometimes you slip outside of the box and give away something different.

 

Anyway - enough - just enjoy the stuff we pump out - some  good, some bad and some in the middle, simply there for simmers to use or ignore - depending on their tastes.

Thanks so much for what you have given us. The emphasis IS on the FUN Stuff. Yes, we really do appreciate what the two of you have done for us & for our hobby. - The unusual & never boring planes & paints!

 

Yet another D-Day paint? (Sigh! -- boring!)

 

As you say, ... FUN stuff.. I'm sure that most of us prefer the unusual paints that you have given us. There is so much D-Day & associated stuff out there. I'd rather fly Vegemite instead of yet another war paint!!
