Ultimate Terrain USA 2.0 on the way

Recommended Posts

Very good news! I've missed my UTX scenery in P3D. Let's hope they do all of Europe this time, and not just half of it.

Thanks for HU. As I am not thrilled with FTX Global Vector, I am very eager to see how UTX 2 will perform within P3Dv2. Main question will be how it behaves with FTX Terrain Titles and FSGlobal Mesh.

They both use Excludes to remove existing data. So you could have several "vector based" products running and the one at the top of the scenery.cfg will win where they have the same coverage. It will not be the most accurate one but the top one.

UTX will layer properly so if you fly into an area outside of UTX coverage, you will be getting Vector.

One of the main differences is that UTX uses commercial data as opposed to generic free data - hopefully providing more accuracy.

That was mentioned by the UTX developer on their website, but it is misleading. At least for NA, FTX Vector is based on high resolution GIS data provided by the US and Canadian federal governments. These datasets are the most accurate available, commercial or otherwise. UTX is apparently commenting on earlier versions of FTX Vector, which used OSM data.
