My first attempt at making an airfield

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm currently working on my first custom built airfield for X-Plane and would be interested for people to try it out and give me some feedback

The current WIP airfield is available here http://world2xplane.com/2014/11/08/xpok-pocklington-airfield-for-x-plane/, and I'll post it onto the Avsim file library when it's finished. Presently it doesn't yet include night-lighting (although it's closed at night anyway). I'm still learning how to create 3D models and textures, so go easy on me, we all start somewhere ;-)

I chose this airfield as the surrounding scenery is very well populated inside World2XPlane with extremely high-detail, and also the area is quite badly neglected in X-Plane. It's a simple GA airfield, so don't try and land a 777 here (or post a video if you manage to do so). Also, the airfield only really works well when you have the scenery suggested in the link installed, as the default X-Plane scenery is pretty bad for this area.

Looking very good Tony!  Congratulations!

I particularly love the gliders at the airfield :-)

Got an error when loading x-plane - probably some library missing? But it loaded ok then, and was able to takeoff and land there :-)

My present Libraries are:

SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/OpenSceneryX/
SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/ff_library_extended_LOD/

Thanks J, any chance you could tell me what the error was from your log file. I might have inadvertingly linked to another library without knowing

I do not have Great Britain 6 HD , but world-models 6.0 from simheaven.

so downloading Great Britain now.

Why are the gliders on the runway ?

And is the github model different from Simheaven ? As even that is 6.0 and I am using the latest German / US / Canada / Netherlands data from there.

I had downloaded mine from SimHeaven, but this github link worked fine ( more up2dt ).

The glider activity is going on - they are operating from the grass strip, not on the rw... well, one of them is not properly "parked", but that's just a touch of realism from the author - typical situation at an airfield with glider ops, at least around here :-)

Why are the gliders on the runway ?

Ah well I thought this also, but check Google and airport photos and they are really there on the runway. Also, the concrete runways aren't really used by the gliders, mainly the grass ones which run parallel, so what you are seeing is actually what was really there at the time the photographs where taken, just don't land your Cessna on top of them ;-)

Yep you need the most uptodate World Models, and not the from from Simheaven which is about 2 months old now.

Tony,

Hey you are doing 3d stuff now ? please please please make a 3d 172 SP cockpit, the XP9 version cockpit looks too big and messes up the views.

PLEASE PLEASE  :P

SORRY TO GO OFF TOPIC

There are plenty of great cockpits out there already. If you want a plane similar to a C172 with a great 3D cockpit with good views then try Alabeo's pipersport. It's a pretty basic plane, i.e. No autopilot etc, but it has a GPS and great views.

Tony,

The problem with XPX , the aircrafts look bigger even than a house, the 172 looks so big near a house. I like the way A2A looks and sounds. Just wondering hmm .

I will check out Piper Sport. But I need something which helps with training. like the 172. Maybe I will check out the Carenado 172 though i don't Carenado aircrafts.

Alabeo do a good C172 which includes a GPS etc,, but it's the retractable gear version. The cockpit doesn't block the entire screen like the default one does. I wish A2A would bring their C172 over to X-Plane as well.

Ok, I would rather check Alabeo.

XPOK works fine. What are those two green patches ?

Hey can you also do some German airfields ? like EDKA and EDFQ ?

What green patches, you'll need to send me a screenshot?
