Installing a MegaScenery city into P3D v2.4- works?

Recommended Posts

Got an e-mail saying that MegaScenery Denver was out.. living in that area I bought it as well as noting that a P3D v2 installed is available through a separate link.

Downloaded 31 .zip files, installed them (which by default installs them to FSX, which I have but rarely use). Noted that the .bgl files were installed into several different folders, one was "Denver", the other "Ultra Resolution Denver". launched the P3D installer (*which just makes entries into the P3D v2 scenery.cfg, I think), and found that my P3D v2.4 goes to CTD if launching at a US airport.

Launched P3D at YMML- Melbourne and found it would run OK, and could then access the scenery manager in P3D to disable the scenery. All seems to work OK now...

Has anyone tried installing a MegaScenery city into P3D v2.4? Any problems, solutons, recommendations?

Thanks, Bruce.

There's nothing special about photoscenery, MSE included. I'm not sure why they tout it as P3d compatible. It's always been compatible. They are just .bgl files hich go into a scenery folder. And any autogen goes into the texture folder. Just enable those in the scenery library.

And I have the whole USA, including all the Ultra Res, installed. The MegaScenery cities should work too.

Thanks everyone for the replies.. only getting back to this issue now so apologize for the delay in replying (I am retiring in several years from now and will then get my life back  :)  )

As I would have thought, there should be nothing different in the scenery file structure to FSX.  Having disabled this scenery last weekend when I was having trouble with the CTD, I now am looking at the "Scenery Location" field in Scenery Library/Scenery Areas, and noted that it is pointing to a location different to the one where I had unpacked the MSE files to.  Going to the location that P3D is pointing to, sure enough there is a folder there "MegaSceneryEarth / DenverultraRes",  but there's nothing inside of the sub-folder, not even a "Scenery" folder.... this must have been put there by the magical P3Dv2.x installer from MSE, which also wrote the config like in the Scenery Library.  I assume the blank nature of this folder structure is what P3D doesn't like.

I will now delete the entry in the Scenery Library, as well as the useless folders that it pints to, and simply "Add Area" and point that entry to the correct place....

Thanks, Bruce.
