Is it normal for ATC Towers to be build on the runway?

Recommended Posts

I was playing at my friends house, he had already bought the Metroliner but i wasn't sure about it so i decided to try it at his house.
After flying over the North Sea we landed at EGUW.
We hit the brakes hard, because some very good architect skills had been used here:

I know ATC likes to watch planes land, but aren't they getting a little too close now?

Why the hell is there a tower on the middle of the runway

Building on the runway?  Where??   I found this at most default small airfields on that side

of the pond.

Minor issue, I'm sure if you apply enough power you can fly over it.

Because MS put it there:

To be fair, it's a military airport and there don't seem to be charts available, but that's taking artistic license a bit far.

I think MS took some short cuts regarding quality control with some of the more obscure airports.  I've also heard that some remote airports have trees in the runways and parking areas.

I think 24.000 airports requires a lot of shotrcuts.

Too bad Microsoft didn't make airport and nav data as som sort of database that could be editet.

ORBX have upgraded som 350 airports for free, so now there's only 98,5% left to fix :)
