DirectX 12 won't be supported by Windows 7

Recommended Posts

Depends. If developers start switching to OpenGL, something that they should have done a long time ago, it won't be missed. If DirectX 12 becomes the most popular API, then it will be a shame because Windows 7 users will be forced to stay with crappy DirectX 11.

Microsoft is obviously trying to get people to move from Windows 7 to avoid it becoming the next XP. Nothing wrong with that, and Windows 10 looks like it may actually be the first tolerable version of Windows since Win7 came out in 2009.

No, Microsoft.  I will not move away from Win7 64-Bit Pro.   It is the best thing you have ever made.  Trying to force us to move is just going to tick us off.   The initial screen shots of Win10 make the GUI look like it was made by a pack of rapid badgers with a box of crayons.   Stop dumbing down the operating system!

DX11.1 is already incompatible with Windows 7. This makes it a major nuisance for developers who use both Direct3D and Direct2D in their work, as the interop links between the 2 only work in DX10.1 on Win7. It got broken in DX11, and only got fixed in DX11.1.

Average users like dumbed down which is why most people perfer IOS over Android. Personally I'm an Andriod user. What MS should do is make one copy of windows nice and dumb for the average user and one with the GUI of XP or 7 that is stripped down of the bloatware for advanced users and focuses on one thing performance!

Jonathan brings up a good point about the "dumbing down" of Microsoft's new products. My school recently switched to Office 2013 from 2010 and I HATE IT. Not only did they move everything around, they also dumbed down the text. It's evident in literally every dialog box that it's not intended for professional use, but rather "dumb consumer" use. It's terrible.

What a terrible analogy. A typical 'Android F-a-n-b-o-y' comment.
