why p3d 2.4 does not support windows 8.1

Recommended Posts

Aren't they going on to Windows 10 and skipping 9?

I work in IT, MANY business are still using XP. Large companies have in fact moved to 7 for the most part.  It's all about security and compatibility with their existing infrastructure and software. Guess what,  end of support for windows 7 us rapidly approaching.  Not end of life like XP, end of support.

I use joystick on other games and other sim and works perfect, without a problem on win 8.1 . Has nothing to do with energy saving or enabling usb stuff on motherboard or hacking registry. Some joysticks/yokes lose connection with P3d, no matter what. But that doesn't bother me at all. Using fsuipc and linda since P3d 1.3 as control management.

It's definitely a bug in Win 8. Some people can get around it by fiddling with the USB power saving settings. Others (like myself) use FSUIPC and that works for me. But back to the original question. I don't see any advantage at all of using Windows 8.1 over Windows 7. And I doubt that Windows 10 will be any better either.

By using logitech instead of Saitek, I do not have the failing joystick problem in 8.1, which IMHO works much better that 7

If its a windows bug, why my joystick works perfect with any game and on other simulators...

but yes, original question... it works on win 8.1

I suggest that you read through the:

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem

thread here on the AVSim forums. It has 57 pages and 841 posts. Only a small number of people report no problems with Windows 8.x. A slightly larger percentage report that tinkering with the USB power settings helps and a somewhat larger percentage say that FSUIPC fixes it. P3d 2.4 still loses the joystick from the UI, but at least it stays connected so one doesn't fly off into a mountain or the ground. That's a major improvement. If it wasn't a Windows bug, LM would have fixed it better. I also had the same problem with XP10 and Win 8.1, although it happened less frequently. Some of the hardware experts here claim that it has to do with the main sim window losing focus. If you never do that, you probably think that Windows 8 is great for flight simming.

No thanks... it doesn't matter how many post or pages are about it, I still don't have any problem with my joystick on any other game or simulator.  Sorry that you have issue with Xp10, thats not my case. There's also megathreads about ooms too.. I havent experienced any.. sorry.

my last post here... peace out and good luck.

Only speaking from my personal experience with Microsoft operating systems since the time of Windows 3.1 way back in the mid 1990's.

Any software developer is being prudent to delay recommending ANY new operating system from Microsoft for at least a year after full release. Yes, they should develop for that OS but, before putting it into their recommended OS's for proper operation of their software, they need to wait for the tens of thousands of bug reports and security flaws to be dealt with by Microsoft and the OS platform to become stable.

P3D v2.4 works also pretty good with Windows 10 (Technical Preview Build 9860). Too many "experts" out there and they are talking only hot air.

I so agree!!

Try it and see for yourself & IGNORE the 'oracles'/self procaimed experts out there!

I just cannot uderstand that there are still guys there that want to run the latest/upgraded software on outdated OS's (& visa versa).

Not on topic, but despite what the experts have said, I have installed FS9 (2x installes), FSX & P3D into their default directories & dropped the useless UAC settings right down!! ( No, I will not get into a debate from the experts that what I did was a no-no, stupid, etc.

I have NEVER had any issues or problems at all. Ever!

So yes, FS9, FSX & P3D works with all the OS's so far!

The question wasn't simply whether Prepar3D works with Win 8... but rather why doesn't Lockheed-Martin list it as a supported OS.

For the joystick issue, just use the registered version of FSUIPC to set up the joystick, gets around the whole shebang!

LM don't list it as supported because for the most part prepar3d is supposed to be used for commercial purposes and they need to provide a high level of support to commercial customers.

Windows 8 does have joystick connection issues occasionally among other reasons so they won't recommend it. They aren't saying it doesn't work, they just aren't willing to provide full commercial support to a windows 8 system.

Personally I use windows 8 with fsuipc and recommend it to anyone and will do with windows 10 too.

However I understand why LM won't provide full support, if you have to rely on a 3rd party application to ensure peripheral control, you can't honestly say your product is fully windows 8 compatible.

I agree with that summary. I doubt that LM will ever state why they don't recommend Windows 8. My theory is that no one can figure out the exact cause of the disappearing joystick magic trick. Microsoft has never even acknowledged it as a bug on their tech support forums, despite a number of requests from users of FSX, XP10 and P3d2.

For the joystick issue, just use the registered version of FSUIPC to set up the joystick, gets around the whole shebang!

What's even funnier about this issue is that Pete Dowson, the author of FSUIPC has said repeatedly that there is absolutely no reason that FSUIPC should fix the joystick problem in Windows 8, since FSUIPC uses the same interface to communicate with the OS as FSX and P3d do. But that's what I use and it does fix it.
